Fantastic Value
The Behringer Minimic MIC800 is a sweet little budget modeling preamp with loads of features. This device is capable of producing audio that is wildly different from each other which is great if you need to hone you're recordings to a certain style. My demand out of this device is minimal. I just need something to boost the signal of a Shure SM58S Vocal Microphone (with On Off Switch) and send the signal out into my M-Audio Delta 1010-LT PCI Digital Audio System (PC & Mac) . I had been fairly satisfied using an ART Tube MP Microphone Preamp for quite a while. The ART preamp has always introduced a slight buzz in the signal though; even after swapping tubes. It was bearable and hardly noticeable but I figured I should keep looking for a better solution. I also needed an excuse to expand my arsenal of cheap preamps. Then I found this little guy and was very impressed. Noise essentially vanished from my signal while retaining the ability to have a 'warm' quality. I was so impressed that I decided to make a video review. I can be heard throughout the video speaking through it. If you're not much for videos and just want the straight meat, below are my pro's and cons'. Pros: *Killer value. The Signal:Noise is some of the best I've heard at this price range *'Tube-like' setup allows for a warm sound - if desired *Compact design frees up work space. Cons: *Very light. I don't mind but some people may get bothered by having to hold the device with two hands to switch settings. *Only output is a 1/4". Not a huge deal but it'd be nice to not have to use adapters.

This is a great little sounding unit for the money
This is a great little sounding unit for the money. The only issues I really had with it was a high noise floor that crept in on some recordings. But it sounded great running an NT1-A into it.

Excellent preamp.
Excellent preamp. The MIC800 sounds great. It really improved the sensitivity of my Audio Technica mic. The V/U meter is a great addition. It's very useful to monitor the output channel and give you a good gauge of how close you need to be to your mic. The model presets are useful with significant differences in how you can tailor your sound. And it has phantom powered XLR input. I use the warm setting, which simulates a tube-based preamp. This unit does not have any tubes that need to be replaced, but the simulation circuit does a good job; and the unit runs nice and cool. There's plenty of headroom; I've got it set at 50% input/output and my Roland AC-40 amp (master volume) is set to only 20%, and it sounds great. I highly recommend this preamp.

Professional Quality - Great Price
I use a(n) MXL4000 XLR Microphone. The Mic run into this Pre-Amp and into a Teac Reel To Reel. I record into Pro Tools 11 and the Stock Sound is Great. Will be buying another when I build my Studio Rack. Great Stuff.

Not a tube amp in any regard
It is suppose to sound like a tube amp. I like the actual Tube Ultra Gain Mic 200, with a new tube, this sounds nothing like a tube amp. A few of the settings are workable and I do like the high pass sweep. Just use it for recording into an iPhone.

Works well but it has some background noise
There is a small hum in the background if you record something and then normalize it in the software. I've managed to find the right combination of input and output gain to minimize it but its still there. And it's not my electrical, I have everything running through a Monster Power Pro 2500 conditioner.

My brother asked for it and he extremely happy with it
My brother asked for it and he extremely happy with it. The item with a standard delivery came through local post and not private courier. It needed an adapter to match input mains electricity which we had to buy it locally. Japan products use 100v input power. We didn't realise it. Also this preamp takes only one mic! But now my brother wants two more!

Exactly what I am looking for. I have a wireless microphone for my karaoke mixer and without this preamp, I was not able to hear the output from the microphone even with the volume set to maximum. With this preamp, I have the line output for the wireless microphone receiver plug into the line input of the preamp. Then the line output of the preamp plug into the karaoke mixer and viola, now I can hear and enjoy my karaoke.

Amazon should describe this (less confusingly) as a compact microphone and instruments pre-amp. I find it very difficult to improve on the review by Peterman. I too had a Shure SM58 microphone, a good sound card but very inadequate signal levels. My voice-over person has a lovely but fairly quiet voice. Having her very close to the mic produced too much proximity effect. As soon as I plugged up the MIC800 I knew this was the answer. It has all the facilities I need and more. For instance if at some point I get a condenser mic, this unit will provide the required 48 volts. My recordings now sound superb and retain all the quality of the mic, having previously lost some of the top end with a noise reduction filter. There is plenty of clean, warm volume, now going into the line in input. For me the SM58 still needed a pop filter - but they are cheap enough. For output a mono 1/4" jack is needed. For my sound card this goes to a 3.5mm stereo jack, wired for mono. So I recommend this unit very highly, together with good prompt service from Yourspares.
