Hate it or love it, it kinda does what it says.
I like being able to look at it and see where I am at during the day. I do a lot of field work and get light headed if I'm beyond a 1500 calorie defecit for the day. It is nice looking at it and realizing that I need to snack before I don't feel good. Also when I'm doing a major calorie burn, I don't have access to a computer, nor when I go camping. You can set it up to beep for alarms. Great for lunch reminders, medicine reminders, etc. It also beeps like crazy when you meet a goal... so you have your own cheerleader! My issues with the device1) Drops sync like change in a slot machine. Simply push a button on the display, then one on the armband and it resyncs. Who really keeps looking at it that frequently?2) Display clip has a small opening. I can only clip it to the arm band. However, I hate watches so this isn't too bad. For people who want to see it without pulling up their sleeve... this is a nightmare.3) Alarms cannot be disabled from the display or armband.. nor can you stop the beeping until it's done.4) The goal met alarm gets annoying as crud and there's no way to turn it off! No where in the software or configuration can you do anything with this. Hurray the first couple of times but it's annoying if it goes off during a meeting or while you're taking a nap.5) Clip feels cheap and I think it's going to break before long.6) The clip digs into my arm when on the armband for a long period of time. Take it off for an hour a day like it recommends. All things aside, it's great to know where I am at on a calorie burn. When I am on a long hike, I burn between 5,000 and 6,000 calories, so this is why it's great to know that I need to snack. On an average day with an hour at the gym, I'm at near 4,000 calories consumed. If you burn around 2000-3000 calories a day or less, I don't know that this information is quite as important.

I'm not sure you need this
I purchased the bodymediafit armband with this display. I used it for five days before returning it- here are my observations..1) You can only track so many things. Calories, amount of moderate/strenuous activity, goals.2) You can't really clip it anywhere convenient3) It is water resistant, but the armband is not (why?)4) You can not enter anything on the display, which somehow I had convinced myself I would be able to. I know it's my fault that I convinced myself of that, but just in case you are of a similar mind, you cannot.5) It beeps. For everything. Turn on the light? Loud beep. How many calories did I burn? Loud Beep. Reset my trip? Loud beep. It's obnoxious, and from reading the manual- I could not tell how turn it off.6) It rarely ever stays synced.I decided I really didn't need this. I'm never particularly far from a computer, and I can definitely wait to see how much I've burned. It's 70$ to satisfy immediate curiosity, and it's a very inconvenient tool. Unless I was wearing a particularly thin shirt, I couldn't clip it anywhere but on the armband, which made the armband kind of fuzzy upon removal (slight tearing of the fibers). The noise bothered me- excitedly the first night, I rolled over to see how many calories I had, had to turn on the light (loud beep) sync it (Loud Beep) and then to check calories (Loud Beep) and then my husband woke up and I realized it wasn't really worth the money for me.I didn't like how it always was out of sync, and how I needed to put it really close to the armband and then sync it... then try and get the tiny clasp to pinch my clothing in a near enough spot so that it stayed synced.I wanted to like this item, but as far as luxury items goes, it's kind of inconvenient. Perhaps if it didn't make as much noise, perhaps if it came with a wristband I would be more inclined to give this more stars- but as is... a solid 3.

A useful tool with a big price tag.
After giving it a lot of consideration I decided I would take the plunge and buy the Bodymedia FIT Weight Management Display. Like others I felt it to be too expensive for what you were getting and it didn't include the watchband which is useful. Here is what I liked about it. I liked that it gave you an immediate display of where your calorie/step count was at that moment. So if you didn't want to pay for the on line service anymore this would give you a great indication of where you were at with respect to those two things. I liked that as I started a walk/run or workout I could hit the reset trip button and it would count my calories and steps for that particular event. When I first got the device it was really touch and go. Most of the time it wouldn't pick up the information from the arm band and state, "Not in sync", and you would have to sync it. That happened for about a week. Then all of a sudden it wouldn't be out of sync for weeks. What I found was that if the arm band was charged every day it would send a better signal back to the display and stay in sync. Granted, to get them back into sync is within a second of touching the button on the arm band, which is really not that big of a deal. I find the device useful and if your not a neurotic person that looks down at the display every other minute to see how many calories/steps you've taken, then you'll be okay with this item. Again it should really cost 50.00 dollars not 80.00 or 90.00, and it should come with the watchband. I have used it for about 6 weeks now and hopefully the batteries will last over a year?
