Great information on alkalizing nutrition for the health-conscious
There are a lot of books out there that describe how to have a good balance of alkaline-acid food intake, but none as good as this one if you're just starting to investigate this type of nutritional approach to health. The main reason is that the other books are geared toward people with serious health issues, and hence those authors insist on very restrictive dietary measures to assist in managing such health problems, which just makes sense. However, for the average person who has good health and exercise habits and is always looking to improve them like myself, this book In Balance for Life is all you need.Most everything in this book is easy to implement. Do what resonates with you, and just those new habits alone will be exceedingly beneficial. Everything I've done in the way of changes to my family's eating since reading this book has been extremely well-received. The only thing I'd like to see changed in the book is the addition of more references. I have purchased both the Kindle version and soft cover book from Amazon.

In balance for life does just that
I got this book as a follow up to the acid alkaline diet. And I'm glad i did. To be brief. A skiing fall left me with a minor but painful lower back injury and a yoga book set me on the path of a vegetarian diet but didn't say why. Eventually I was led to the alkaline diet. In balance for life is really premised on this but goes much further as well. It explains how nutrients are taken into the body and reasons why they are not. It details the essential minerals and shows under what conditions we either benefit or miss out on them based on our pH (im)balance. It also relates this science to what combination of foods we eat. The book is systematic, thorough and also enjoyable to read, obviously written with expertise, care and good humor. I guess your wondering about the back injury? Well it's not cured but the pain almost completely disappeared within days of managing my pH and taking supplements.

Good, but lacking documentation
This book has good information and much of the information is in line with other books on the same subject. However, he does not explain where he gets the ratings for whether a food is acid- or alkaline-producing. What is his system for determining this? Nearly all information about the pH-producing effect of various foods varies between books and authors, but most explain their system of determining the rating.The listing is also quite limited. There is no resource guide either. In general, I had the feeling that he is telling me the way things are without back-up resources. He may have the resources, but it would be nice to know what they are.

Helpful and informative
I was unfamiliar with the idea of pH balance being a significant causal factor in many of the most common health issues we face and thought this was a well-written introduction to it. The author does well at presenting a balanced approach to health that is nothing new or groundbreaking (as he points out as he uses sources that have been around for decades) but still motivating and has simplified my perspective on what makes food beneficial or harmful to the body. Highly recommend for those looking to cut out the noise of fad diets and studies and want to focus on basics.

A great introduction to the importance of food to health
I originally bought this book to understand the impact of pH factor on health but got so much more. I read the book in less than 2 hours cover to cover and learned the impact of not just how pH levels in our bodies are good or bad for us but also the importance of a host of other factors for n health and illness. This is a great introduction that also offers more - including sensible views of why, what and how. It is something I wi be reviewing regularly.

In Balance for Life
I met this author years ago and heard him speak in Idaho and may I add he looks exceptionally healthy and lives what he talks. Very knowledgeable without coming across as a know it all or this is the "only way type of guy" He gives factual information and allows the listener to make changes in their own life. And after hearing him, I am still using his mega greens after 15 years with excellent results.
