The book covers the history of kerala over the past 2000 yrs. The book is a wealth of information. It mostly covers the political development of kerala over the past 2000 yrs. It was not a easy book to read. It is full of facts. The author has covered a lot of information in this book. The author must have referred to a lot of material and has tried to highlight only the important historical events in this book. The book also covers briefly the geography of kerala and the development of arts, music, literature, language, architecture, customs, culture, religion and region of kerala state.

This book opens the window to the history of kerala from prehistoric times. Very lucidity written without any ideological baggage or agenda. A must read for anyone who is interested in the history of kerala. and its evolution.

An excellent book. The chronology is well compiled. It is informative and does Justice to events that shaped Kerala. As a soldier I would have liked The Battle of Colachal better enumerated. At times the inferences are not convincing, especially the harm Brahmanism did to an egalitarian Kerala culture. The Nairs may have been the first martial race in India.I do not think conscription existed any where in the North. Soldiers were essentially farmers and served Feudal masters when called to Arms. But none of my views take away the fact this is a remarkable book.

A good book covering all major kingdoms and time periods in kerala history.. A bit too factual I would say, so might be a bit boring at times.. But overall covers well the nuances of all major parts of the State.
