Thought provoking. Doesn't slide on one Of the axes. I'd like to buy the extra large one of it were functional, but I can't be sure until I buy it, I guess...

If you're like me, and buying this to actually use it for it's intended purpose of showing orbits of the sun around earth, you'll be disappointed to find that the vertical ring doesn't move. Mine wasn't attached to anything, but it was pressed hard into the base, and couldn't move. I hammered it out, and filed open the mounts until it was able to move freely, which wasn't too bad but be warned: it doesn't move out of the box.

I read the reviews before buying. I was prepared to return it if it was a mess. It was round, words spelled properly, and spins nicely. The globe itself does seem to be a fairly heavy gauge brass. It may be brass plated, but I don't know that for sure. What surprised me was the base. It is some sort of cheap silver tone metal and there is no wooden base there. The bottom is PAINTED to resemble wood. I was surprised no one else made mention of it. The picture is definitely a misrepresentation of the actual item. It will sit in a small niche up high in a book case and will be adequate for that purpose.

Nice, went well with the decor

This is a great little decorative piece except for one thing. As I was looking at it I noticed that the word Taurus is misspelled. On my piece it is spelled Tuarus. That's a pretty glaring mistake in my opinion. Luckily I purchase the item to sit on a shelf not to be examined closely.
