Great for EMS. No fluff.
A quick read with just pertinent information and zero fluff. I’ve recommended this book to several of my EMS/Fire coworkers, and everyone has found something in the book that has improved their IV success rate. We ended up buying a physical copy for the station so employees for years to come can read it.

Useful and thorough. Great for newbies!...Good review for experienced
I recommend this book for newbies and experienced, (to review and update). I am experienced but have been blowing sticks lately. Bought this as just a review to see if I could pick up a tip or two. The book is easy to read, no fluff, has good descriptions and useful photos. I wish I had had this book when I was a brand new nurse. I learned what is in this book the hard way (for my pts as well). I bought another book on starting IV sticks as well. I definitely prefer this book. This book is more thorough, better descriptions, more info. The other book I bought did have a useful list of antidotes in case of extravasation. Would like to see that added to this book.

Can't find the vein or how to find the vein in this book. But worth buying anyway.
What is there is great and is worth 5 stars. But I felt like it was missing something. I read once in another place not this book that you can easily feel a certain tendon and then move one way and 80 % of people have a vein there. I did not read anything like that. Sure the techniques suggested are good but where do you look for the vein in the first place and especially how do you do hard sticks?

Some good tips…
I’m a newer RN, with my previous career being one where I initiated many phlebotomy sticks. I was looking for a book to increase my IV start success. While this book had some great tips, there were only 1 or 2 tips that were new to me. Everything else was something I had already come across with my own research it speaking with veteran nurses on my floor. If you are someone that likes photos, you will probably not be satisfied with this book. There is a huge lack of photos and all of the photos that are included are in black and white. The author tries to explain techniques with words, but without an accompanying picture demonstrating these techniques, it can be very hard to visualize what he is actually trying to say. This was an easy read, but overall a bit disappointing. I am not sure if presented with the opportunity that I would purchase this book again.*All tips are found in the books appendix. If you know every tip on the list in this photo, then you could probably skip this read.

Highly recommended read for nurses
I have a glowing review of this book. I was going through a period of months where I could not get an IV and always had call the charge nurse to help. I was getting so frustrated and then I saw this book. I read it in under an hour and it really helped clarify and solidify the technique of starting an IV. Tonight, my patient's IV came out and so it was the first time I put into practice what was in the book.As Bob writes in his book: "One and done!" I got the IV on the first stick! And the patient even made a comment that I was really good because the nurse before me poked him multiple times. I plan on rereading this book every few months to keep my skills up.

Highly recomended
As a nursing student I have found this book quite helpful. I felt the instruction we recieved on IV starts was inadequate, so furst I tried reading articles online and talking with my instructors. I still was not happy with what I new, so I looked into books and decided to give this one a shot. It was woth it, I have been able to get IVs that nurses missed. The information in this book has helped me get IVs in elderly patiens with thin and shallow viens as well as in a patient who was in an altered mental state and had to be held down as he was struggling the whole time. I highly recomend this book. I do feel I can still learn more about starting IVs and need more expiriance, but it left me much better off than I was.

IV starts what you need to know
Contains a lot of basic information, much of which I learned in the army with that said I enjoyed reading this. It never hurts to review the basics.
