Review: I eat my peas with honey. I've done it all my life. - It makes the peas taste funny, but it keeps them on the knife. - Anonymous And that is how I managed to search for and find this long lost book of great import for me as a child. This was the beginning of my love of the written word. We had a copy in the van when I was growing up, and I distinctly remember wearing it out, the cover snapping off in my hands. At six or seven, I probably had it half memorized. Like many things of youth, it faded away. Years later, in probably a dream or a stupor, that goofy little couplet about peas and honey occurred to me, and Google fetched it all back for me. All the bright lights are there. I buy a copy of this for every friend of mine who has a child. I've bought something like three dozen now. I keep a stack of three or four on the stairs just in case. If I could put a copy of this into the hands of every kid in the world I would, it is utterly indispensable. Review: Wonderful kid's book - An excellent book, especially for the price! This book would easily selll in a bookstore for $30 or more. The print and illustrations are very well done. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #21,378 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #92 in Nursery Rhymes #698 in Children's Classics | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 803 Reviews | ## Images ![The Random House Book of Poetry for Children - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81BJ2TZm-eL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Media Format** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I eat my peas with honey. This book would easily selll in a bookstore for $30 or more. The print and illustrations are very well done. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Perennial Gift *by W***R on June 17, 2007* As a middle school reading teacher, I host an annual Poetry Reading Competition open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. For the past several years, this book has been a prize, in addition to plaques for the first and second prize winners. The best review for this book is that the children use it, read it, and often select poems from it for their entry pieces. Even better, perhaps, is that I have had thanks from many parents for awakening an interest in poetry in their children, boys and girls alike. This volume of poetry offers a full range of poems, for short to long, humorous to sublime, and in a wide range of topics. While it is just one of a wide selection of books and poets I offer my students, it is one of the most versatile. Whether teaching rhyme scheme, simile and metaphor, slanted rhyme, figurative language, or stress, this is also an invaluable part of my teaching arsenal. ## Frequently Bought Together - The Random House Book of Poetry for Children - Poems to Perform: A Classic Collection Chosen by the Children's Laureate - FAVOURITE POEMS: 101 CHILDRENS CLASSICS --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/1234850-the-random-house-book-of-poetry-for-children](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/1234850-the-random-house-book-of-poetry-for-children) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-13*
