Accurate, robust, thermometer: pager feature more than a gimmick
The thermometer works well, has a long enough cord that I can set the display on the counter next to the oven, and it has a clear read out. The remote pager is a nice feature too. I originally thought it was just a gimmick but it bailed me out once when I got caught up watching tv and lost track of time. Most importantly, the probe seems accurate and I’ve been very happy with the done-ness of the meats I’ve used it with (steak, chicken, pork, and sausages so far). The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars from me (I’d give it 4 1/2) is because some of the suggested targeted temperatures are outdated...or at least, they don’t match the most recent recommendations I’ve found from authorities on the web. That’s no big deal as you can dial in any target you want, it just subtracts a little from the product. Overall I am very happy with it.

I thought this was areally good wireless thermometer
I thought this was a really good wireless thermometer. I didn't need to read the instructions to have it working, then read later as meat was cooking and discovered you could set the receiver to vibrate rather than beep when it is in your pocket, or clipped to your belt. It worked in my pocket tranmitting from one side of my house to the other, through several walls. I think the magnet on the transmittor is to stick it to the side of the refrigerator - or maybe to the oven door when using, but no where too hot like a barbecue grill. The transmittor stands upright by itself on the kitchen counter and has a nice blue back light that by default stays on for 5 seconds or can be set to remain on permanently. On larger joints of meat it calculates and displays the remining cooking time - which I assume is a ball-park calculation based on the time the meat took to climb in temperature. The reciver merely indicates by a beep when the meat (or fish) is cooked - it has no display. Over all it appears to be a well made unit. Just use with common sense. Time will tell how robust it is.

Does the Job and Does it Well.
Thus far, this has been a fantastic thermometer. Short backstory: had the classic Taylor with a timer. Classic Taylor died after owning it for just over a year. Replaced it with this. ON TO THE REVIEW! This AcuRite thermometer is great. Designed for baking, grilling, and all things in between, it is more than capable for anything you can throw at it. When you turn it on, it instantly gives you a selection as to what meat you are cooking and will tailor the cut off temp appropriately with next to no effort. In addition, this timer features a cook time estimator - it performs this task via measuring the rate of temperature increase and doing the math to see how long it will take to get to the target temperature. Complete with a backlight, this thermometer will not leave you hanging. Well, it might - but that is due to the industrial sized magnets on the back of it. They add quite a bit of heft at 2"x.5", but this thing will hang anywhere. The probe provided definitely rings as good quality - it uses a steel braided cable and a silicone grip on the end of the probe. Seems pretty accurate. Remote warning station (the unit on the left of the item picture) is a bit of a gimmick. Will vibrate or beep at you when your food is close to finished and then alarm when it is indeed finished. Downsides: - Top demerit: range between wireless receiver and base unit is extremely limited, even with new batteries. 10', 20' tops. Not great for large distances. - Main unit display can be difficult to read if not angled exactly right. Gets that LCD ghosting effect. - Worried that main unit knob may break off - seems instable. - Cannot use other probes. Plugged in the old Taylor probe and got a reading of 106F. I'm sure I could re-calibrate it, but then the original calibration would be off. - Wish the belt clip unit had a magnet on it to store with the thermometer (this lack of functionality is as close to nit-picking as I can get)

Excellent Thermometer
This is an excellent thermometer. It works precisely and I love that it tells me how much longer my meat will take to reach safe temperatures. I had the same one before, and after a while, the probe stopped working. I contacted their customer service, and they sent me a new one without hassle. So, great product and great customer service. We did leave our first AcuRite thermometer outside in the rain for a few days, which is why we needed a new one, but I did not even have to research others, since I loved this one so much. Highly recommend this!

LASTED A YEAR & A HALF
BUT only worked properly for less than a year. The estimated time until done feature is a great idea, but was unreliable, but I could live with that. The low battery warning never worked, a head scratcher but figured it out. The final straw was when I almost totally ruined a brisket. The estimated time until done feature seemed fine, then started running backwards. Found the temperature reading 52 degrees low. Acurite discontinued telephone tech support. Not worth it to me to start filling out forms and waiting for replies. And I don't type 500 words a minute, so not even going to try the live "chat." My other Acurite products, including BBQ thermometers, have always worked well, but this one just did not live up to expectations. Time to switch brands.

Does the job. Accurate, Reliable.
I've used it for beef, pork, chicken, and turkey. Works great. For my first half-dozen uses I verified its accuracy with a handheld digital meat thermometer: spot on. It would be nice if the probe cord were a little longer, but it's long enough if I don't put the probe in too far back in the oven. The remote fob is a nice feature and the wireless link works flawlessly. I've owned three other in-oven meat thermometers and so far this is the best.

Great thermometer!
I love this thermometer. It takes the guess work out of cooking meat. I was notorious for overcooking chicken. When I say overcooking, I mean REALLY overcooking. I was never convinced that it was done and I didn't want to make my family sick. This thermometer is not only accurate, it is easy to use. It has a pager that alerts you from another room that your meat is cooked. I don't even bother setting the kitchen timer anymore, the thermometer tells me when it's done!

The good: 1
The good: 1. The thing does take the temperature of the meat and the probe is pretty durable. I give it two stars because it really did work well as a basic thermometer. 2. I thought it was easy to program. The bad: 1. The pager worked once and only when it was within a direct line of sight to the thermometer unit. It never worked again no matter where I left it. 2. The unit turns off constantly thus rendering the pager function useless. If you have to constantly turn the thing back on, it isn't monitoring anything. Therefore, this thing is no more useful to me than any other meat thermometer one can get for a few bucks. 3. There are magnets on the back of the mother unit so you can slap it on the side of the smoker where it is supposed to remain while monitoring the internal temp of your meat--cool feature if the unit would have stayed on. However, a bigger issue is at work here: Heat is not a friend to plastic so do not attach this thing to the side of your grill or smoker. If you do it, you'll only do it once because the battery cover (where the magnets are installed) will warp to the point it becomes unable to stay closed and there is no fix for that. Recommendation: Look elsewhere for a monitor. I thought I was going to get lucky with this purchase but my experience with this product was a disaster--maybe I was too cheap and would find more success with one of the higher priced models. Anyway, moving forward I am going low-tech with a decent, old-fashioned meat thermometer.
