Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you.

classy watch
So far, I really like this watch. It's got a clean, simple, classy look. The case is really shiny and the face is wonderfully easy to read. The Indiglo is also super bright. It's comfortable on my wrist. Especially good if you have small wrists like me. Some people have complained about the ticking being loud. It is audible, but not more than about a foot away in a completely silent room. If this bothers you, maybe steer clear. Otherwise, it's a fantastic watch, especially for the price. You could pay 3 times this much for something not nearly as elegant and versatile. I've purchased a couple of colored straps to change up the look.My only complaint: the leather strap is really thin and I'm not counting on it lasting very long. Also, it seems like the weekender leather strap is impossible to replace, so I'll have to buy a NATO, which is bulkier.

Great watch - Loud ticking sound FIXED at home!
When I bought this watch I loved everything about it, the hands and face, the ability to change out the strap, the price. The only thing that got to me was the how loud the ticking sound was. I had to put it in the sock drawer at night to be able to sleep. After some thought and consultation, this is what I did.(Warning: Do this at your own risk, I am not a watch repair person, and only did it once)1. Took off the back with a miniature screw driver using the side notch.2. Took out the battery carefully and put it to the side. (Don't move anything else inside the watch)3. Located the partially exposed one gold gear in the center of the watch underneath the battery.4. Put a tiny amount (half drop at most) of light mineral oil (honing oil) on the exposed part of the one visible gear.5. Replaced the battery and closed up the back. Pushed back in the knob to start it back up.Now the watch runs, keeps time, and is almost completely silent! Thank goodness.Once again, only try this if you're wiling to risk ruining the watch. The loudness of the ticking drove me to be willing to do that. It almost certainly voids any sort of warranty. But hopefully this helps folks get full enjoyment out of a great watch!!!

Decent first casual watch
I like the simplicity of the design on this watch, and the low price was also helpful. I think it looks pretty good in person, and is minimal/simplistic enough that I don't have to worry about it looking gawdy or being too dressy for daily wear. My only complaint is that the band it comes with feels cheap, and will stretch out. The band is replaceable, however, so that's not a really problem. Also note that this watch's ticking is very audible: I can hear it from across the room on my desk when in bed if it's silent. It seems to keep accurate time and the light up watch face is convenient, although I haven't had to use it much. Overall, a nice first "daily wear" watch, and I'm happy with the purchase.

OK beginner/beater watch, AVOID the leather band
I bought it as a gift for someone who really dug this watch... they loved its minimalist, simple style, and a lot of people online (specifically reddit's watch/male fashion advice community) shared similar insights and spoke very highly of the watch. Now that I've had a chance to see it for myself I can only describe it with one word: overrated. That might be a little harsh, because for a $25 or so watch you could do much worse. The watchface itself is actually fairly good quality... seems durable, is accurate, etc. A lot of department stores/Wal-mart/etc. peddle a lot of terrible timepieces for more money; Timex on the other hand makes pretty reliable little quartz movement watches. I myself have had their Flyback Chrono for years and it's yet to fail on me. We haven't gotten much long-term use out of this, but I'm assuming that its safe to say that this will hold up similarly.A few more things I didn't like:- The leather "band". I don't even feel right calling it a band. It's very flimsy and feels like it'll rip/fall apart... and this is brand new. I can't imagine how terrible it'll be after months of daily wear. Save yourself the hassle and go for another option, like their NATO straps.- This watch is TINY. I have pretty small wrists (I think about 6.25") and I usually go for watchfaces that are 40-42mm in diameter, this case is 35mm. It feels like a girl's watch at times when I put it on.- Loud. You might not notice it at first, but when you go to bed at night the ticking will definitely be very noticeable. I own about 7 or 8 watches and the only other watch I have that is as loud as this is, go figure, my other Timex.Overall - it's an OK watch for beginning watch enthusiasts on a budget. Definitely some shortfalls and annoyances, but you can't go wrong with the price, and the design is pretty slick (albeit small). Because of its size, this would also make a great watch for younger kids. Definitely steer clear of these leather bands though, don't even bother with them.Watch - 4 starsLeather Band - 1 star

Great watch for the money
For $29.99 you can throw away the original strap and buy a new one. This is a simple, elegant watch, that keeps perfect time and looks terrific. What more do you want from a watch that cost less than $30? The leather band is thin, but functional. I will buy a nicer band to spiff it up a bit. I'm looking at a Hadley-Roma black leather band that sells here for $10.39 Hadley-Roma Men's MSM717LA 200 20-mm Black Crocodile Grained Leather Watch Strap but good leather bands can be had for anywhere from $10-$150. I've worn it to work a few days now, and have already received compliments. This is a "timeless" style (pun intended) that is very much in vogue. It pairs nicely with a variety of looks, but is terrific with a suit and fedora. I like it enough that I just ordered the same watch with a black face and nylon band (plus two additional bands in different colors.) The black version is a fine homage to the WWII Army A-11, the "watch that won the war."

Good watch, would recommend buying an extra strap
I like this product, its isnt as noisy as some of the reviews claims and the strap isn't as flimsy,I would reccomned either buying another strap from naylon or a better leather strap but currently Im using the original strap and its still good (got it a couple of weeks ago)
