Western Digital 2TB Ultrastar DC HA200 SATA HDD - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 128MB Cache, 3.5" - HUS722T2TALA604

I ordered a Western Digital 8TB Ultrastar DC HC320 8TB hard drive which my computer detects as a Hitachi HUS728T8TALE6L4 8TB hard drive. After buying one of these drives, I was so impressed with it that I ordered two more. I've been using these drives as storage drives with a Samsung SSD boot drive for several months now in three different computers and they have worked flawlessly. I've always used Hitachi Ultra Star drives for their reliability and performance. This WD drive is a really Hitachi Ultrastar drive that now has a WD label since WD bought Hitachi's drive business. Besides being ultra reliable with a MTBF of 2 million hours, this 7200 RPM drive is also the fastest SATA drive that I have ever tested that wasn't a SSD. I had been using a Hitachi HUS724040ALE640 4TB hard drive for storage and when running the CrystalDiskMark test for Seq Q32T1 test, I got 155 MB/s Read and 147 MB/s write which I thought was pretty respectable. But the Western Digital 8TB Ultrastar DC HC320 blows those scores away giving scores of 263 MB/s Read and 263 MB/s Write for the Seq Q32T1 test. Just for reference my Samsung 850 EVO scored 547 MB/s Read and 512 MB/s Write on the Seq Q32T1 test. This drive has it all speed, reliability, runs cool, and is reasonably priced. I've seen a lot of negative reviews complaining about this drive not having a warranty from WD which is true. However I do feel more confident that the seller that I bought mine from, Platinum Micro, will honor their-5 year warranty after calling them on the phone. I had paid $212.87 for the last drive that I bought from them and two days later Platinum Micro dropped the price on Amazon to $187.50. After doing a search for Platinum Mirco, Inc., I was able to find that they were located in the Los Angeles area and I got their phone number. When I called the number, I got a menu and one of the options was for warranty returns. I selected sales and talked to the salesman there who was very polite and explained I was a little upset that I hadn't even received the drive I ordered yet and the price was now now $25.31 cheaper that when I ordered it. He said no problem that they would refund $25.31 back to my credit card; so I would rate their customer service as excellent. If you want to get really picky, the only thing you might complain about is that it is a slightly noisier that a WD Black drive but it's only slightly louder and I don't think most people will mind. It is so fast I can now transfer files from my SSD to this drive in about half the time it took before using my old 4TB Ultra Star drive. Just buy this drive you won't regret it.

Flawless and quiet performance. It does come formatted for windows, however when I powered up my Mac Pro this was instantly recognized and in about 30 seconds the Mac reformatted the drive for the more efficient HFS+ (macOS). The performance is outstanding. The packaging for these drives is top-notch. The WD units are cushioned with end-brackets and each drive also arrives in it's own box. The drives are hermetically sealed and labelled individually, on the drive and on the Mylar vacuum bag. As for performance, their great! They are similar to WD Black for speed and performance. Actually like these over the black series. Just as fast but much more quiet and built sturdier. Something to consider regarding warranties from ANY hard drive manufacturer. Do you really want to use the warranty? Let's say the drive fails, do you really want to send all of your data off to someone else? In my many years with WD I've never had one fail so this issue is one I've never had to confront. I find this drive to be a good value if you need something reliable. However Bear in mind that I purchased my very first hard drive in about 1984, 5MB (5 megabytes) for $1700, so all drives seem inexpensive compared to the early days. I bought this drive from Platinum Micro, Inc. and it is a OEM drive. Therefore the warranty from Western Digital is not valid. I called WD and they said to return the drive. OEM drive warranties are covered by the seller and NOT WD! The drive was NOT listed or sold as a OEM drive. Very misleading! With an OEM drive you have to hope that the seller is still around in 5 years and they will handle the warranty like WD does. It work in IT and I will tell you never buy OEM drives because sellers never have the same service that WD has. With WD I give them a credit card number and they send a new drive with return shipping for the bad drive. I have dealt with OEM before and it is nothing but a pain in the fundament for warranty service. I recommend NOT buying from Platinum Micro, Inc. as they are not truthful in saying they are selling OEM drives. I have bought the 8TB version of this drive from ServerPartDeals seller on Amazon and the warranties are good from WD. Unfortunately ServerPartDeals do not sell this WD drive in 14TB so I bought a 14TB Seagate Exos X16 from them instead. I just like WD drives better as they have a much lower failure rate then Seagate drives. I prefer to buy Enterprise or Data Center drives as I use them in my NAS. I was using WD Red Pro drives but they fail much sooner than Enterprise/Data Center drives. Always check to see if your manufacturer warranty is good before opening the drive. Or contact the seller before buying and ask if the drive is OEM. If it is OEM I would give it a miss. Caveat Emptor!(Let the buyer beware). If you want a cheaper priced drive then go ahead and save some money and buy an OEM drive, They are made by the manufacteur but DO NOT COME with any Warranties from the drive maker so the Vender get a cheaper price to sell the drive to you. How ever if you have a drive failure only the vendor does the warranty NOT the maker of the drive, I have worked in IT for over 45 years. Drives do fail. You always want to buy drives that have the warranty covered by the drive maker I did find out that ServerPartsDeals do sell retail drives that come with the drive makers warranties. Any problem with the drive the drive maker will give you a brand new drive that meets or exceeds the specifications of your drive. An OEM seller can not do that. The most they could do is relace or refund the cost of the drive. One always want to by only Retail Drives NOT OEM drives. I find that SeverPartsDeals have always sold Retail hard drives. They are up front on this that they only sell Retails drives with warranty from Manufactuer. Again I always say; "Caveat Emptor!(Let the buyer beware)".

FYI: This is actually a HGST drive, not a WD drive. WD took over HGST drives, so the labels are from WD, but the BIOS and CrystalDiskInfo reads it as a HGST drive. But since HGST drives are very trustworthy and the drive's label is consistent with what has been advertised, I have nothing to complain about it. The drive is quieter than the WD Gold 6TB drive I've been using, both when it is idle and seeking. 'Course it is not as quiet as some 5400rpm drives, but the very fact that you choose a server-grade drive means that you should tolerate some more noise and heat, so it doesn't count as a downside for me. Among server-grade 7200rpm drives, the drive is quieter than the average. The drive is about 2-3 degrees hotter than my WD Gold 6TB, and operates at 35℃ (95℉) when idle, and 41℃ (106℉) after 3 hours of continuous reading and writing. Note that I use a 120mm cooler fan (Noctua NF-P12 redux 1700PWM) for each of my drives, so it would be hotter when you design a system without the fans. After attaching some small heat sinks made of copper on the drive's upper surface, the temperatures have gone down by 3-4℃ (5~7℉). I highly recommend this idea for those concerned about the heat and durability, but do not cover the label or the holes, otherwise it would lead to malfunction or denial of warranty. Absolutely satisfied with the drive, and if it fails someday, I will update my review then.

UPDATE: I recently bought another Ultrastar drive, 14TB . Checked its serial on HGST website, and it has 4 years warranty (in the US). drive received is brand new (zero working hours) and also seems to be very quiet compared to the 8TB and runs about 5 degrees (C) cooler then the 8TB! bought 8TB drive from "serverpartdeals" store back in Feburary 2021 . the drive was new but had a constant ticking sound that seem suspicious to me. Amazon gave me a full refund . I searched for the drive's serial number on HGST site and indeed it was under 5 years warranty from its manufacture day. but I'm totally uncertain how one's going to use this warranty in case of need. I urge you to read Bradley K. review here , as it is most accurate - the pictures of the drives shown in the item's description, are from a different revision of these drives, for example. Also, from chats I had with various stores (on Amazon), some of these drive aren't actually new. If you're looking for a great reliable drive at a very reasonable price, but don't really care about warranty - this one is for you. EDIT: send the seller a question about the drive before you make the order - like "is this drive brand new with 0 working hours". it they don't reply, don't buy from them! also, make sure to check whether the drive you got has actually zero working hours

I know people get that stupid idea in their head that they need a high RPM or even SSD drive for great performance, but that's a stupid idea because there's no such thing as a high quality or long lasting HDD in high-RPM or SSD packages. Motors wear out over time and solid state media just plain loses its ability to retain data every time it's written back to. I've been using Western Digital Enterprise Edition HDDs since that's what they were called. For awhile they were Red for some reason, then Gold (not actually sure which of those product names came and went first). Now they're Ultrastar or Datacenter editions. At any rate, these drives run at 7500 RPMs and if you don't stress them they keep doing that forever. The storage medium keeps holding data accurately. The motor never dies. Occasionally a control board will flop, but those can be easy to repair. About all you can do to actually lose data with a WD Enterprise or Datacenter HDD is drop it hard, hit it with a hammer, or pass a high intensity electromagnet really really close by. I use these drives in any system that's expected to last and keep performing at its original standard until it evaporates in a nuclear blast. Whether it's a multi-thousand-dollar gaming rig, a performance workstation, or a server expecting any amount of data-access-load at all, just get this drive and don't waste time and/or money on anything else.

Reliability I have had three of these drives Western Digital 8TB Ultrastar DC HC320 in continuous 21/7 operation since 2023. They were manufactured in January 2020. I have had zero problems with any of them. I only pulled them out today because I am upgrading to WD Red Plus for my new NAS.

HGST, once a separate drive manufacturer owned by Hitachi, was purchased by Western Digital in 2012. By 2018 Western Digital had dropped the name "HGST" from any of its drives. It did, however, continue to use the HGST brand name "Ultrastar" for drives made by the former HGST. This remains the case today as I understand the WD hardware lineup in which Ultrastar drives are the former HGST drives, but with HGST branding removed and now called "Western Digital Ultrastar." The importance of this is that according the the best source of information on drive reliablity (Backblaze's hard drive stats), HGST drives were the most reliable data center drives made with Western Digital drives not even being included in Backblaze's stats because they wouldn't use them in their data centers because of their terrible reliability issues. Western Digital's WD Red and Red Pro lines of data center drives have improved, but Western Digital's Ultrastar drives with their HGST heritage remain top-of-the-class for reliability. The reason they're cheaper here is that Ultrastar isn't generally sold to consumers in the USA, and thus you are likely buying OEM equipment from a reseller rather than buying direct-to-consumer products from Western Digital when you buy these drives. This means that you will probably not be getting a Western Digital warranty with these drives, but a reseller warranty which may or may not be worth anything. So what about the lack of warranty? Honestly, I want a drive that lasts, not a warranty. The cost of replacing a drive is nothing compared to the cost of having to deal with a failure and then rebuild of the whole RAID setup of my NAS. I far prefer a drive that will last to a drive that is more likely to fail, but has a better warranty for when it fails. These are absolutely the 8TB drives I wanted for my new Synology NAS. I don't care about penny-per-month differences in power consumption. I don't care about a few decibels here and there of noise variation. I want a drive that will last, and based on HGST heritage and technology, these are the drives I bought and am now using.

Detto questo, mi aspettavo di trovare, come avvenuto in passato, almeno la bustina con le viti di montaggio... macché per pochi centesimi di valore sarò costretto ad acquistare un intero set di viti per PC e per il momento l'ho dovuto legare con una fascetta di plastica all'interno del case. Onestamente temevo per il funzionamento dato che il l contenitore di cartone era inserito a sua volta in uno più grande di Amazon senza protezioni interne per cui sballottava parecchio e chissà quanti colpi ha subìto durante la spedizione ma per fortuna l'ho montato e funziona. Vedremo nei prossimi giorni. Sembra un buon prodotto, peccato non fornirlo con le classiche viti di montaggio che hanno un costo veramente irrisorio ma che sono indispensabili.

Je confirme que ces disques dur sont avec la technologie CMR et donc fiable pour du RAID, NAS, Serveurs. Trop bruyant pour un disque sur votre pc je pense. Même si ils le son n'est pas très fort, ils grattent de temps en temps ce qui normal. Test étendu effectué avec aucune erreur. Rapide, solide et efficace. Il vous restera environ 7.25To d'utilisable.
