Makita XSS02Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 6-1/2" Circular Saw, Tool Only

I really like Makita products and have a set of batteries for other Makita tools. This saw is compact and lightweight which works well for me, as heavier saws are hard to hold. It does the job too, cutting through thin material easily and also heavier wood. I only used it on 2x4s so far, so not sure how well it will do on really thick material, however I always have my corded saw for that. The battery I have has not diminished after several hours of intermittent use putting up wall board, so I am happy with that aspect. I love that it is compact and cordless which makes it a very versatile saw! This particular saw did not come with the original box which was not important to me, but if you want the box and the plastic box that most tools come with, this is not for you. I did not realize that it did not come with the original box. It was very well packed and did include the instructions and a fence, which was fine for me. Not sure why the description did not mention the original box wasn't included. That said, I am happy with this saw and believe that Makita products are good, so not a problem.

Although this is our first Makita saw my brother has had one for over 10 years and it still works just as strong I'm looking forward to getting the same performance out of mine I highly recommend Makita to anyone who's thinking about purchasing battery operated tools

After using the corded version of this saw for many years and being an afectionando of Makita tools for years, I decided to add this saw to my 18V collection of Makita tools. While it doesn't seem quite as powerful as the corded version, it's powerful enough with the 5AMP Makita battery for most jobs that the corded version can cut. I don't know why some reviews on here say it lacks power, unless they are using poorly charged or smaller AMP batteries because, my saw cuts 2X4's and 3/4" plywood like butter. Because it is so much lighter, it's easy to carry on the jobsite for framing and I use it in construction daily without any problems. If I were to buy again I would buy the brushless version Makita now has available. 8/16/2021 I thought I would give a follow up review of my saw to let you know that it's still doing great however, I just bought the brushless version and I am impressed by it's performance. I must say that if you are on a tight budget then this saw works well but if you can afford it then I would buy the brushless one for the extra battery life and power.

This replaced my old makita that took the small battery. This is a huge upgraded model and excellent design. Super impressed with this one. Well done.

Love Makita. Have many LXT tools, all excellent. This seems like a great saw. But it was shipped loose, bouncing around in a corrugated carton, the saw just wrapped in a white plastic bag. The carton was partially opened at the badly taped top flaps, and the saw had ripped through the bag in several places. I see no damage to the tool, but the hex wrench for the blade is missing from its location on the handle, and is not in the bag or carton. If you buy one, check it over carefully for that wrench, and any possible damage from bouncing around during shipping.

I bought this saw for a large deck project where I didn't want to be bothered with extension cords and bulk. It did everything I wanted. It cut 5/4 hardwood just fine. I really liked the compact motor because I could rip 18' boards with precision using another board for a straight edge and the motor would clear the straight edge on the motor side of the fence. (ie track saw substitute). I considered the brushless equivalent of this saw, but reviews suggest there's a common problem with the brushless controller module failing and it's a >$100 part. The saw is very lightweight and handles like a dream. There are still some uses for a big heavy corded worm drive Skill saw but those are rare.

Love my Makita stuff, and this things is a champ! Highly recommend this. I didn’t get the more expensive one as I do t make my living with it, but I used it like crazy building a very elaborate treehouse for my daughter.
