However this product didn't work on our lupins which were badly covered in aphids. **Q: What is the active ingredient?** A: It’s not got an active ingredient as such. It contains surfactants which stop pests being able to adhere (Is my understanding) - so aphids can’t hold on, fungal spores can’t germinate etc. It is safe (As in you can spray on fruit bushes and still eat the fruit soon after) and moderately effective. Not great for loads of mildew for example, but perfectly good at dealing with moderate amounts of greenfly and various other pests. **Q: Will this bug and mildew spray kill gnats** A: I don’t think so. It isn’t toxic. It just acts as a coating on the plant to stop insects and fungal spores being able to take hold. I doubt it would be effective as a gnat spray as they don’t generally stay on plants. It works against greenfly and black aphids because they are often on the stem and leaves to feed, and it stops them from being able to. **Q: Mealybugs? Couldn’t use any dangerous insecticides. This product is all natural ingredients and after 2 days all webs and mites have gone.
