Worked fantastically with other prevention steps -- ALMOST NO MOSQUITO BITES AFTER NINE DAYS IN THE JUNGLE!!!
I just came back from a nine-day trip deep into the Peruvian jungle -- into the reserve part of Manu National Park. It was an incredible journey! Fantastic nature, and incredibly isolated and pristine (an area never disturbed, and still inhabited by non-contacted peoples). But ahead of time I was extremely nervous about mosquito bites, because twice in the last ten years or so I have been to the emergency clinic with dozens of bug bites and a very strong allergic reaction to them. I practically obsessed over what to do to prevent mosquito bites as much as possible, because I have had such a strong reaction to bug bites, and the jungle is certainly full of mosquitos and other biting insects!. I am very happy to say that everything that I did worked -- I got very few bites, and I didn't even notice them until I searched for them. Everyone else in our group got plenty of bites, and they were itching like crazy, but not me!!! Here is what I did and what I brought: 1. I have a Peruvian friend who is a doctor. He told me to take Vitamin B complex every day for a week before the trip and every day in the jungle. I used these: Nature Made Super B Complex Tablets, Value Size, 360 Count 2. I bought two bottles of this Permethrin spray and very carefully sprayed ALL of my clothing, carefully following the directions on the bottle. I sprayed all of my clothing at home in my garage, and then packed it all in these giant ziploc bags: Ziploc Big Bag Double Zipper, Large, 5-Count (by the way, those bags were great for packing everything and really helped to keep things from getting too damp in the 100% humidity jungle!). I sprayed the three pairs of hiking pants I brought, three long-sleeved shirts, all of my thick hiking socks, and my sunhat (both sides). I put extra spray at all openings - pant cuffs, shirt cuffs, and shirt button seams. While there I always tucked my pants legs into my socks. The tour company had suggested wearing a cotton t-short under long-sleeved shirts because the mosquitoes bite through clothing, but I never did that; I didn't need to as I just didn't get bites through the Permethrin-sprayed clothing. This stuff really worked, as I did not get bites through my Permethrin-treated clothing! 3. I took the antihistamine Loratidine (generic for Claritin, this one: GoodSense Allergy Relief Loratadine Tablets, 10 mg, 30 Count Bottle ) as a prophylactic every morning, to prevent my strong reaction to bites. This worked GREAT -- I did get a few bites, as I could see the tiny red dots, but I didn't feel anything at all from them! I took only enough for the days that I was in the jungle. In the two days in Cusco before returning to the US I started itching a little on a couple of bites. In hindsight I should have taken a few extra tablets to take in the next few days after the trip. (Another hint - some people get drowsy on this stuff; I tested it first at home before going on my trip. There are other OTC non-drowsy antihistamines you can try if this doesn't work, like the generic for Zyrtec.) 4. I bought DEET. In my paranoia about insect bites and my prior reaction to them, I bought several different versions of DEET -- spray, wipes, and lotion, but I used only this spray, and only three times: Repel 94101 6-Ounce Sportsmen Max Insect Repellent 40-Percent DEET Pump Spray, Case Pack of 1 . That bottle is plenty for lots of people; to minimize weight and volume in your pack you might even want to put it into a smaller travel-sized spray bottle. I sprayed the backs of my hands, and then wiped from the backs of my hands onto my neck, cheeks, and forehead. 5. I had a mosquito head net that I purchased many years ago. Amazon has others but not the one that I have, so I can't give a link. I used this only two or three times when the mosquitos were especially thick. I had sprayed this also with Permethrin before leaving home. 6. I also brought with me an over the counter anti-itch creme (hydrocortisone), and a prescription-strength anti-itch creme (Clobetisol). I never used either one!!!!! But my travelling partners sure were happy that I had it so they could use it! I also had Sting Eze ( StingEze Max2 Insect Bite Itch Relief Dauber, 0.5-Ounce ), but this too I never needed, and my travelling friends were very happy to use. I worried a LOT before the trip about getting mosquito bites and my reaction to them. Really worried. I questioned my sanity for going! But with this Permethrin spray and everything else I did to prep, I had NO problems with mosquitos and I was able to totally enjoy the trip!!!!

Should help keep Ticks away
So far I have been pleased. This is easy to use and has clear directions. While I can't say it is a great value, it does appear to be a high quality product and you pay for quality. There is NO noticeable odor or discoloration to any of the fabrics or lathers that I have applied it on. Overall I have been very pleased with the quality and performance. Though I doubt their claim for 4-5 outfits from this one bottle. I am probably applying it a bit heavy, as I only get 3 pairs of shoes and 2 outfits out of a bottle. As far as effectiveness, I am using this for ticks, and while I can say I have not gotten any ticks on me while wearing clothes treated with Sayer Permethrin, I can't say that it will always work either. Suggestion to Sawyer: Can you offer your products in a bulk concentrate form? Then allow customers to dilute and apply themselves. It would really help with the value if you offer a lower cost per once of permethrin concentrate option.

Want proof how good this stuff is? 2nd TO NONE!!!!
If you want something to keep insects away and not just for a hour or evening but WEEKS? Look no further. I sprayed this all around my front door of my home light fixture etc, back door gutter area known for spiders to hide. A few weeks ago I cleaned out around the front entry way of my home as the light by my front door is an insect MAGNET. So after I hosed and brushed the area clean I remembered I had purchased this product but hadn't had a reason to actually put it to the test. Well here is the test and the results. This photo was taken tonight and not a flying insect to be seen. Normally moths at the very least are circling not to mention ORB spiders come out this time of year where they build their webs at night and take them down by morning. Not a single one and it's been a couple weeks since I applied this product all around everything. I still cannot believe that there are ZERO cobwebs, spider webs etc when the light literally would have insect evidence by the next day and moths the same night. As an ex commercial exterminator that worked for food factories and distributors, hospitals, hotels I had access to the most potent chemicals available and this stuff for a fraction of the price literally has no equal. This time of year spiders are making their way inside and if you want to keep them out then this is your first line of defense. I will NOT ever be without this product. I don't need to order from a speciality exterminating company and pay a considerable amount more. There is not another product I've ever purchased that has exceeded my expectations like this one. I have not received anything for my review, promised nothing zero compensation ( though I'll take it). When something impresses me I'll make sure to tell everyone and when something sucks well I'll do the same. Make a note I did clean away the area as best I could which is the first rule of insect control is clean up all cobwebs and debris. Then apply your preventative treatment. I even sprayed it around my gutter down spouts as spiders like to hide there in the day and would leave a line from my gutter to my umbrella and or fence and if I walked out during the day I would walk into it. They leave this up as means of making their web at night and use the air to help them move from one location to another . I would watch them build their web and they remove it by morning. This time of year they are everywhere. Not around my gutters and not around my front or back door. Look them up they make their webs during the evening and take them down by morning to avoid predators. Spray this along walls under your gutters, porches fences etc. This stuff works and from an ex professional for the price over the counter there is nothing better as a deterrent dollar for dollar. I also included some photos of my back door and gutter area that is a haven for insects especially the Orb spider. Again weeks later and nothing. What more proof could you want? If you ever walk outside and walk into a single stand of spider line you have an orb spider on the high side and they curl up into tight balls where they are not easily seen. Now Orb spiders are beneficial to humans capturing moths that might otherwise produce caterpillars which can be pests in our fall gardens and I don't advise killing them I just don't like walking into the web strand they leave up and don't want them around my doors, they can go to my neighbors all they want.

Does the job, wish it had a better sprayer
Great repellent, but as mentioned in other reviews, the sprayer does not work well and leaks which is frustrating. Still helpful for combating the high tick population we've had this past year.

Treat your clothes once, forget about ticks for six weeks
This is the half of insect protection most people skip. DEET on skin handles mosquitoes in the moment, but permethrin on fabric is what actually keeps ticks from climbing your pant legs in the first place, and it stays put through washings. The 12-ounce bottle treated one full outfit for me — pants, long-sleeve shirt, socks, plus my ball cap — with a little left over for the daypack straps. Plan on more than one bottle if you're doing the whole family or a full set of camp clothes. The trigger sprayer is a genuine improvement over the aerosol version: better control, no overspray drifting where you don't want it, and you can actually tell when fabric is evenly damp instead of guessing. Method that worked for me: hang everything on a line outside, spray until the fabric is uniformly damp but not dripping, pay extra attention to socks, cuffs, and waistband, then let it dry a full two hours in the shade. Once dry it's completely odorless and invisible — nobody can tell my hiking pants are treated. Results speak for themselves. Two seasons of trail work in tick country in Pennsylvania and Virginia, and the ticks I find are crawling on the outside of treated fabric, dead or dying, instead of on me. Held through five or six wash cycles before I retreated, right in line with what the label claims. Two real cautions worth knowing. Wet permethrin is genuinely toxic to cats, so treat outdoors and don't bring anything back inside until it's bone dry. And it goes on clothing only, never skin. Follow those two rules and this is the single best thirteen dollars in outdoor gear I spend each year.

Love this stuff!
My kid golfs a lot during the spring, summer and fall. We live where there’s all kinds of ticks and until winter hits for snow and negative 0 temps, they’re out there. Also found a lone star tick in the back yard, and many cases of Lyme reported over the years. The thought of my kid having to go through strong antibiotic rounds for Lyme, get a lifelong meat allergy, or permanent neurological damage is terrifying. While I’m not out on the course, I did spray down the shoes, and golf bags for walking not using a cart. When spraying down one of the golf bags in the garage, I left it and went back in and a beetle was basically having a stroke on the floor and died right in front of me. I assume it grazed the bag! I haven’t seen a tick on him but always inspect to be safe. Having his shoes and bags treated when walking the course gives me peace of mind. The Lyme org website states that just having the shoes alone treated with permethrin reduces a tick bite by ~70%. The bottle sprayer kinda sucks so I got different spray bottles for it. Definitely use this in a well ventilated area and wear gloves! It does reek like pesticides at first but there is no smell once dried. Just did the one for the team today and have already done the shoes twice as it has to be reapplied after 6 weeks/washes. Also have already purchased more since the first. Amazon seems to always have the best price. Was sealed well both times and no leaking. Will be buying again!

What a difference this product made!!!
Pleasantly surprised! After working in the field the previous weekend, I probably had at least 50, if not more, ticks! I suffered for a week with the itch/pain and irritation of the residual tick and insect bites, over my ankles and body. After treating my clothing with the detailed and easy-to-follow instructions, I came back with ZERO bites or ticks after working this past weekend! I was working in dense fields/forrests. My clothing had no significant smell after the drying/treatment process. I laundered my clothing as per usual, and it came out great! THANK YOU!!!

Decent Barrier, But Not a Full Force Field – Use with Caution
As an avid hiker and camper, I was really hopeful about the Sawyer Permethrin spray for pre-treating my outdoor gear. The idea of long-lasting protection on clothing and tents is very appealing. After using it on several trips, I've come to a mixed conclusion. What's good (and somewhat okay): Longevity on Fabric: It really does seem to last through multiple washes, which is a major convenience. You spray it once, let it dry, and theoretically, you're good for weeks or months of typical use. Tick Protection Appears Decent: While I wouldn't say it completely repelled everything, I did notice a reduction in the number of ticks I found on my clothing after hikes in tick-heavy areas compared to when I didn't use it. For ticks especially, any barrier is welcome. Odorless (Once Dry): Once the treated clothing or gear is completely dry and aired out, there's no noticeable scent, which is a big plus for sensitive noses or hunting. Where it falls short (and raises concerns): Does Not Repel Completely: This is my biggest gripe. While it might reduce the number of mosquito bites, it certainly doesn't eliminate them. On evenings around the campsite, or even during daytime hikes, I still ended up with a fair share of mosquito bites on treated clothing, especially through thinner fabrics. It feels more like a deterrent than a complete repellent. Don't expect to be completely bite-free just because your clothes are treated. You'll still need skin-applied repellent for exposed areas. Safety Concerns on Body: My primary worry is what happens if it gets onto my skin. The instructions clearly state "for clothing only," which is fine, but during application, or if you're sweating and it leaches from the fabric, there's always that lingering uncertainty. I'm not entirely convinced about its safety once it makes accidental direct contact with the skin, especially for prolonged periods. I tried my best to avoid contact, but it's hard to be 100% sure. Application & Drying Time: You need good ventilation when applying this, and it takes quite a bit of time for items to thoroughly dry and "cure" before they're ready to wear or pack. This requires some planning ahead. Highly Toxic to Cats: This is a crucial point I learned from the web and a significant drawback if you have feline friends. You absolutely cannot let cats come into contact with wet permethrin, or even treated items that haven't fully dried and aired out. This makes application and storage a bit of a logistical challenge for pet owners. Overall: Sawyer Permethrin is an okay addition to your insect protection arsenal, particularly for its long-lasting tick deterrent properties on clothing. However, it's not a magic bullet for complete bug freedom, especially from mosquitoes, and the safety concerns regarding accidental skin contact and its toxicity to cats are definitely something to consider. It functions best as a supplemental barrier, not a standalone solution. Manage your expectations, follow the safety instructions meticulously, and you might find some value, but don't ditch your skin-applied repellents just yet.

No ticks
Well, I went out the other day in some very tricky areas and came back with no ticks, so I very happy with this product. It was easy to apply to my clothing the day before.

Very good product but not used it yet
Very good product but not used it yet. Good for soaking your children's night clothes. It can withstand 6 hand washes. Soak your children's night clothes and dry them. This will keep them safe in the night, especially during power outages in areas with heavy mosquitoes. You can spray on mosquito nets, hiking gear and evening clothes too. I highly recommend this product.

Check shipping costs!
Shipping was stupid money, feels like I got ripped off quite nicely. Didn’t realize until the product arrived. Totally my mistake, but almost US$40,00 Shipping for a plastic bottle is crap.
