Does this clay need to be fired in a kiln if you're using it for sculpting/modeling characters?

We made bowls in Children's Church with this clay. It dries over night; however, if your creation has thin parts, it will break very easily when dried. Some of the children's bowls were very thin around the top and those tops chipped off almost as soon as they were touched. One child made a spoon for her bowl and the neck of the spoon broke when she picked it up. I believe this clay would be good if the characters are made with thick appendages. As an aside, the children loved using it and it was very easy to clean up.

can I paint this clay with ceramics glaze and put it in the oven once it is dry?

We let it air dry and used acrylic paint or spay paint.
