Complete German Grammar is pretty easy to follow
So far, this volume seems to be the easiest for this beginning German student to digest. The book makes a lot more sense than German for Dummies, which I found to be a frustrating mix of folksy language and inadequate explanations.Complete German Grammar is pretty easy to follow; it starts with topics like the gender of nouns and definite and indefinite articles. There are many helpful exercises which help to cement your newly found knowledge.Note: the Kindle edition is not really formatted for Kindle. Tables of information are basically at a 2pt font, and since they are formatted as pictures, there is no way to change their size.

Great basic grammar for beginners
I purchased this PMP text after a first attempt with _Basic German_ (from the same series). My task this summer is to teach myself the equivalent of a first year of German so that I can read articles in German and I've only been working with this book for about a week (up to Ch. 7). This book is nicely organized and graded, moving from easy grammar and drills to progressively harder grammar and drills. The repetition in the drills made memorizing vocabulary and verbs easy. I come to this book with language experience in Spanish, Italian, and Latin, so I'm not learning grammatical concepts from scratch, but I think that this is a great grammar for beginners.

Covers the basics systematically
Probably it is worth noting that this covers only the most basic German grammar. It starts at near zero, and covers the basics (plurals, ein-words, verb tenses, modals, etc.)Most of the translation exercises are very short sentences of 10 words or less. If you have the equivalent of one year of college German, this will not be very interesting and will seem like a step backward. You should have a working knowledge of grammatical terms (preposition, adjective vs. adverb, relative clauses, etc.) or you will have some difficulties understanding what is being taught. For somebody who has previous working knowledge of German and needs a quick, basic review, this is good. In fact, that is its niche. Hard to see other use cases for it. If you are just learning German from scratch, you might find this tough to use unless you are familiar with grammar concepts and terminology.I did some German in college and had gotten rusty, so this was a good refresher. The exercises are good and unambiguous: straight one-sentence-at-a-time translation or 'fill-in-the-blank'. Either you did it right, or else wrong, and you can check the key to see. That's it. No frills, German crossword puzzles, fake conversations, and other junk like that.Note: This is not an advanced grammar review, or even intermediate. It is less thorough and not as advanced than Schaum's Review of German Grammar, which has more detail and covers more special cases (but also takes a lot longer to work through).

I love this book
I used this book in conjunction with some old textbooks to teach myself German. I love this book. It has a lot of explanation and a lot of exercises which really reinforce what they are trying to teach you. I love the fact that the vocabulary builds on itself in the book so not only is it helping you with the Grammar but it also helps build your basic vocabulary. This is an excellent book for anyone learning German and if I could only recommend one book to have, it would be this one. I have a number of books in this series and have only worked with a couple and I really like this author and his style of teaching and especially all the exercises.

Great when paired with another learning avenue
I'm currently using this book in conjunction with Rosetta Stone's German course work, and this workbook is proving invaluable to me as an individual with no prior German language education. I've found that if I do about 30 minutes of Rosetta Stone coursework, then follow up with some work from this workbook, that I'm getting a complete educational experience similar to when I learned Spanish in high school, only now I can go at my own pace. By itself, this book would be a bit tricky if one isn't familiar with pronunciation guidelines in German, but it's a perfect asset alongside Rosetta Stone (which I also recommend).

The best of the grammar books!
Grammar is THE tough topic for me in German. It's really amazing how many words that we share with German, but the grammar is very different. Working through this book, put in a common sense form, has been helping me a lot with my German.

Great for beginners.
Have been teaching with this book now for a few weeks and the student is happy. It is well organized and takes you step by step through German grammar. It is a great book if you have no knowledge of German and want to get started on the grammar

Great for a beginner
Unlike some of the other Practice Makes Perfect books--this one is geared to an absolute beginner. There are many many written exercises in each chapter and each item is presented very clearly with lots of examples.Pair this with Mr. Swick's Easy German Step by Step and the beginner has a great chance at success.
