Gamify has Serious Implications for Digital Marketing
Digital marketers that want to ‘up their game’ should add ‘Gamify’ by Brian Burke to their summer reading list.If you think that Gamification was a fad of the early 2000’s, you’re wrong. In the upcoming ‘Age of Big Data’ it might hold the key to digital marketing success and failure. Gamify: How Gamification Motivates People to Do Extraordinary Things, by Brian Burke of Gartner, provides a must-have foundation in gamification for every digital marker. The book introduces gamification, game mechanics and experience design. When the book was released in 2014, these topics had little to do with digital marketing. In the two years since its publication, however, its become more relevant to marketers than ever. According to research by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), 86 percent of marketers will own customer experience by 2020. According to the study, the top channels to the customer will be social media, mobile apps and the web. This means that ill-prepared marketers need to understand these environments better than traditional marketing channels and evolve with them.Read a full review here: [...]

Don’t bother
A book about gamification by an author who isn’t a gamer makes about as much sense as book written about racing from someone that’s only watched it on TV.

Good introduction with real-world examples
As someone relatively new to gamficiation with business partners asking for it, I wanted to make sure I understood its principles and best applications before I said "Yeah - let's buy a platform and deploy it across our organization." This book provided exactly that. The author included real-world examples that helped me think through my business challenges. I feel prepared to propose several use cases that take advantage of gamification's benefits (motivating behavior) while avoiding its pitfalls (token rewards for misaligned goals, etc.).

Must read in gamification
Many thanks to the author and I trust his judgement and the work of his organisation, Gartner. After reading a lot of books from 2011-2012, reading this shows me where the field is and what are possibilities going forward. Now I feel ready to go into the studies that are out there and see the grassroots research. Fascinated by gamification ... :)

Great insight on gamification
This book had many good points on what gamification is and how it can be implemented effectively in an organization. The author used simple, easy to understand examples to help reinforce the points they made.
