Walk In The Night: Motown 70s Studio Albums

Definitely worth the price. This collection will leave you with the understanding that Junior & his All Stars were groovy soul band that continued to be one of the driving forces in soul music in the 1970s. Many people know Junior and the boys in the 1960s for songs like Shotgun, Roadrunner, Hip City, etc.. But that's not the final juice out of the grape. The 1970s material takes a slightly different approach. To me, it's a more smooth, funky, approach. Junior's horn is out front and absolutely delightful. Thank you Junior Walker and The All Stars. Thank you for giving me so much pleasure over the years. Thank You.

"Superb" is indeed the word for this fantastic collection. "Godsend" is also appropriate for fans like me who have been waiting decades for these tracks to see the digital light of day. I had about half of these albums on original vinyl, but even those were lucky bargain bin and thrift store finds.Let's hope there's a volume 2 so we can get Whopper Bopped Show Stopper and Blow the House Down.

Disc 1: A Gasssss/Rainbow Funk is disappointing consisting mostly of mediocre cover songs and pop oriented original songs. I suppose Berry Gordy wanted to go for a more middle of the road sound to obtain higher crossover potential and Billboard chart positions. It would appear that this strategy didn't work. The twenty-four multicolored booklet only lists the Billboard R&B Albums and Top 200 Albums charts position. Disc 2: Moody Jr./Peace & Understanding and Disc 3: Jr. Walker & The All Stars/Hot Shot returns Junior Walker & The All Stars to their original soul/funk, stretching the limits of the conventional Motown Sound. That is the "I can't believe that's Motown" sound that attracted me to the group, which is a musical sound that I like so much. Berry Gordy allowed Junior Walker to create and record his own unique sound that did not necessarily fit the hit making Motown Sound formula. The booklet teases with mentioning three more Motown releases and two non-Motown releases. I hope SoulMusic Records has plans to re-release these in the near future. The booklet also contains a brief bio of Junior Walker, detailed background information about the recordings and a discography.

I was very impressed with the quality of this 3 CD set. Each CD comes in an LP cover pocket and includes 2 complete albums. The enclosed booklet, notes and pictures are informative and well presented. An import that was shipped and received earlier than the expected delivery date.

I'm happy that these albums have now been released on CD but the sound quality is extremely low and not clear. Not sure if remastering took place and if so, what seems to have gone awry.

Soul Music Records have really done Jr Walker and his fans proud here. The box screams quality and somehow urges you to pick it up and open. Inside you will find a glossy booklet that has track lists and review of each album. There are 3 cds in cardboard sleeves showing front and back album covers and record labels. 2 classic albums on each cd and what classics they are! It's been a long time coming but this is an excellent 3cd box set. Hopefully his other albums will follow soon.

サックスはひたすら明るくメロデイーを吹きあげる。歌はサザンソウルなしゃがれた歌声。ジャズがやや陰気な感じがする一方こちらは陽気なダンスパーティー音楽。気分をあげてくれる音楽。ビートを強調した曲が６０年代より減ったがソフトなジャズ系の曲もいずれ心地よくなった。質の高い演奏は変わらず楽しい
