ULTRAVOICE XM1800S 3 Dynamic Cardioid Vocal and Instrument Microphones (Set of 3)

I had to write a quite review for these. I am a semi-pro musician, which means I get paid to play but I don't make my whole living making music alone. I bought these because I am doing a gig that needed mics with on/off switches on them and the Shure SM58s we were using didn't have them. While Shure does make a version of the 58 with an on/off switch, it would be quite pricy for me to invest in three of them. I did a little research and wanted something that came in a case with three vocal mics with on/off switches on them. Several companies had packages that came close, but it was this Behringer package that ticked all the boxes. It also happened to be the most affordable. I assumed the mics would be okay given the low low price of the package, but much to my surprise these sounded better than the 58s! I wasn't the only one who thought so; my other vocalist said the mic was clearer than the 58 was and that she didn't have to sing as loud to be heard. So there you have it. If you need three mics with on/off switches that come in a nice case then do not hesitate to get this. Dare I say if you want to step up from an SM58 sound wise get these as well. The only thing I can't comment on is durability and reliability. The thing about SM58s is they last forever. The one I am comparing this mic to has been with me since the 80s. Will these still be working in 20 or 30 years? Will these withstand abuse on the road? I honestly can't say, but I would not be surprised if they did. I also would not be surprised if they did not and died after some time or a good drop. However, for this price, I am okay with that. If they last a few years and then die, I may buy another set or see what else is available at the time. All I can say is this is a very convenient package for someone trying to outfit a band with several vocalists who is on a budget. To sum up, reliability is anybody's guess, but the sound quality is not an issue with this package.

I am a hobbyist / semi professional musician. I have played music and ran sound in local beer dives and festivals for over 25 years, so this is the POV that this review is coming from - the proverbial "weekend warrior" (what 99% of performing musicians are). First of all, you can't beat the price on these mics. They come in a handy case along with three mic stand clips. You will want to transport these mics in the case. They are not "bulletproof", nor can you "hammer a stage together" with them like some of the myths surrounding more expensive, professional microphones. I take care of my equipment, so I cannot vouch for how much abuse they will take. I have never written an equipment review before. What possessed me to do so in this case is that last weekend my band opened up for another local band who didn't have enough material to cover four hours, so we split the door. Anyhow, we used the other band's PA equipment including mics. Fortunately, I am a singing drummer so I always bring my own mic, cord, and stand. I have used these Behringer's for almost a year, and I have been pleased with their performance so far. I packed a Behringer for this gig. The other band had a nice sound system (too bad they don't know how to run sound), including a whole host of Shure SM58's. I haven't directly compared the SM58 to the XM1800S yet, and I can say with authority that I am very happy that I brought the Behringer. The sound quality on my Behringer was crisp and clean. The SM58 has always been "mid happy" IMHO, and can sound muddy very quickly, especially when the sound guy is not very experienced. I am a "set it and forget it" guy. I am too busy singing and playing drums to be knob dicking the sound board all night. The Behringer XM1800S meets my needs very nicely. In summary... Great price! Handy case! You can never have enough mic clips! Crisp and clean sound! On/off switch to confuse the guitarists! Not going to take the abuse of a $100 Shure SM58! The perfect mic for the weekend warrior, beer dive working musician! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I wanted to grab some good dynamic mics that I could use for live shows and in the recording studio, but ones at a low price point. After searching around, I came across these Behringers which had good reviews and were a really good price. The moment they arrived, I plugged them into my UMC404HD and tried out some vocals. I wasn't very impressed initially but after some eq'ing and compression is was better. They are slightly harsh on voice. Where these mics really shined though was with a drum kit. I was blown away! I've always used Shure mics for drums (sm57s and beta 52) and decided to give these a go. I even used one on the bass drum. I was expected it to be dull and thin on the kick but it handled the SPL and frequency spectrum just fine. Same with the snare. I used the Glyn Johns Method with 2 of these dynamics (kick and snare) and 2 of the Behringer C-2s (overheads) on drums and was really happy with the result. They're very solid mics and don't feel like they'll break the moment the drop. I'm sure they'll sound better for vocals in a live setting but in the studio they perform well for drums and probbaly mic'ing other instruments. Good buy and can't beat 3 good mics for the price.

I've engineered at semi-professional recording studios for a long, long time and play in a cover band. Maybe not the best credentials in the world, but I do know what to expect in a decent hand-held mic. I got this three-pack specifically for home karaoke use at the astonishing price of $39.00. That's fricking $13 per microphone. That shouldn't be possible. For that money I'd almost expect a high-impedance 1970's Radio Shack mic. Plugged each of them in when they arrived and was dissatisfied with the treble response. Had to crank up the high end. After my wife reminded me that we just got them for karaoke use (I should note that she thought they sounded just fine), it dawned on me that I'd just paid $13 for a mic that was not too awfully dissimilar from a Shure SM58. Yes, high end is lacking and bottom end is, too, but those can be compensated for with a bit of EQ. This is NOT a terrible-sounding mic. I could see using them for band rehearsals or as emergency backups at a gig (or home karaoke, of coruse). Only gave three stars for sound quality, but if I were grading on a curve due to cost, that would probably go to four or five. They feel a little cheap because... well, they ARE cheap. And that's okay! Overall, the bang for the buck is absolutely incredible. I knew what I was buying, and was not in the least bit disappointed. Oh, and they came with a case and three mic clips?! Geez. (BTW, the mic clips will hold the mic and not just the end of the mic cable, as I've seen a review or two mention. You just have to push the mic into the clip.) This purchase goes down as one of the best value purchases I've ever seen. Again, not for pro use at any level, but for home use or practice, you can't go wrong here.

I bought these microphones because the price seemed good and the case looked sturdy. I planned to use one microphone for doing video interviews, and the other two as backups or if I had a project needing more than one microphone. These microphones really pick up well and send a strong signal. They can be used within close proximity or even a couple feet away from my mouth (or an instrument) and they still pick up strong. In terms of tonal response, they are fine. You'd probably have to spend a lot more money to get better sound. They sound better than $100 name brand microphones I bought about a decade ago for use wit a live band. At first when I tested the microphone I found it so sensitive that I thought it would pick up the slightest sound from my hand on the microphone (which it does). However I put some tape on it, and when I got out "into the field" the level of input as I spoke plus the ambient sound drowned out any "handling noise" which is to say they worked very well indeed. I would highly recommend these microphones for live performance, studio, or field work. The case is really nice and these microphones look to be very good quality and sturdy. Their sound is very good and anyone would be hard pressed to think you didn't lay out $100 a microphone for these (and as I said, there are $100 microphones out there that do a much worse job).

I had some Behringer products and I know about the good quality and low price, but I was in doubt about these, because all other good brands doesn't have a decent quality microphone at this low price. So I decided to buy them because I needed some backup microphones to my church chorus, and the reviews were good. After use them, I still don't believe they were so inexpensive because they are so good, the sound is very clear even that we have a very old console, They never caught a "pop" sound from the speaker or vocal, I had to use them with a little volume/gain to equalize the other microphones we have (We have several Sure PG48 and Peaveys, but these Behringer's sound much better). I live in Mexico and one friend received them at US, then he carry the package down here. I paid next day deliver and still the deal was very convenient for me. Now I'm ready to get another set as soon as I have some friend coming here. (Note. I also disassembled one micro just to see the inside, and you can tell right away the quality of the product, the roughness of the magnetic piece is superior to the others I saw, believe me, I have been working for more than 25 years in the electronics manufacturing industry, and I know what I'm talking about).

I'm a professional musician and just sold a PA system with Sure SM58 microphones, so I needed a new set of PA mikes for my new PA. The low end frequency response on these mikes is a little high, but I tried them and they seem to work just fine. They have a lot of punch and even the low end sounds great. The price was about 1/10th of what you'd expect to pay for three good mikes, plus a free hardshell carrying case and mike holders - which I will use a lot. They don't come with cords which will set you back about $40, but I had 3 cords already so this worked out great! I have guitar amps and mixers from this same company and they are really high quality professional type gear.

OK, I've bought Behringer equipment before and it has worked every bit as expected. However, three mics for $40? How could the perform well? I was so pleasantly surprised when I took the first one out and connected it to my system that I totally forgot to plug the other two in to check for operability. (They all worked perfectly.) I'm not too technical on flatness of response, muddiness, and the like. Some of those things can be explained by mic technique and mixing, while some are truly technical and beyond my abilities to analyze. I do know that I like the sound I get from them, however. To my ears, they seem crisp and responsive but not overly sensitive to every little movement. This is great for live work. Sure for studio work you'll want a condenser with all the right stuff, but when these mics sound this good, how can you go wrong? OK, I know how, you buy someone else's $40/3 mic set. Nice job Behringer. These are truly a sweet deal.

I now realise the importance of an honest review. I made this purchase based on customer reviews! These are top quality mics, crystal clear and beautiful. I’m not a technical person but wanted something for my choir and this piece didn’t disappoint. Really glad with this purchase.
