From what distance can it record?

It records background noise more loudly than actual speaker or music. Please don't use for distant recording more than a foot.

I want to record my bike's engine and exhaust sound. Will this work for that purpose from under the seat placement like the zoom audio recorder?

Yes. But placement is very crucial
