The board was beautiful, looked nice but we noticed a porous cavity on the surface. This one would not be safe to use as it is not possible to clean properly. It was our first purchase from this company and it was a bit disappointing as we expected a better quality control. Gladly a replacement is on the way. Also, as was noticed by other users - the board looked very dry, so season it well before the usage. Update: the replacement was with some defects too. It will be returned. The quality is very disappointing, I’m not a client of JB anymore.

These chopping boards arrive parched. I bought a bottle of cutting board oil, used the whole thing on mine within a few days and then had to buy another. I'm halfway through the second, much larger bottle (see photo) with no end in sight. I slather my board in oil and a few hours later it has totally absorbed. It's been a couple of weeks since I purchased it, and I'm still oiling it several times a day. I'm waiting to see if it ever gets to a point where it has had enough. Lol. The cherry wood is changing as it rehydrates and has darkened and become even more beautiful. Based upon how much oil mine is drinking, I think I understand why people are experiencing cracks. I also notice that one part of the board is much drier than the others. If you're not willing to oil yours like crazy, several times a day, for a few weeks before you start using it, this might not be the board for you. The wood arrives very dry and the moisture content between the pieces of wood seems uneven, based upon now they are absorbing oil at different rates of speed. If you live in a dry climate, once you remove it from the plastic wrap, this is only going to get worse without proper care. This board will last you, but it's going to need some serious TLC in the beginning, before you can rely on it. I'm kind of enjoying watching this process unfold, but I can see how people who (understandably) just want a cutting board to use upon arrival will be disappointed.

Great board, easy to use and maintain especially when oiled properly.

Gorgeous cherry board! Arrived well packaged. REALLY DRY, took 4 mineral oil applications and a good Boos board wax coat, the grain really pops and the cherry color has really blossomed. Nice weight to it but definitely would not want to drop this one on my foot (for both my foot and the board’s sake!) Looking forward to using this board once the wax cures.

Researched extensively on good cutting board and the reviews everywhere mentioned that the quality of the Boos boards was b stock/seconds from manufacturer directly, sonoma and/or amazon. I read amazon reviews where customers immediately returned boards with visual defects and the replacements were also bad. Same with the teakHaus brand. So I took the chance and ordered Boos cherry 18 X 12 via amazon (seller = spreetail) and it has zero defects and sits flat on both sides. It wasn't dry or rough, but still oily in one of the handles, so they must be pre-treating them now. Not sure if there are fake reviews or just hit or miss bad quality, but mine is good thus far and I will update this review IF there are any issues after it's thoroughly seasoned. Hope this review helps someone else.
