Primos Hunting Hoot Flute Owl Call for Turkey Hunting

It works good. Cover both holes on top and the one by the mouth piece for the deepest tone. It does sound realistic in the quiet woods.

Holy cow, I didn’t think it would work as easy as well, but I picked it up and started hooting right away. Watching a video on how to use it was super helpful but it’s the real deal. Look out turkeys here I come this weekend.

Unlike most people interested in this call (for luring turkeys), I bought it to call in owls. It sounds very realistic, and I have seen it used in the past by friends to successfully call in owls. I would recommend it to people who are interested in easily bringing owls in closer for night viewing and picture taking. For the turkey hunters out there, I expect that if it sounds realistic enough to bring another owl in, it would fool a turkey into believing you were an owl!

I’ve been running the Primos Hoot Flute this season, and it’s earned a permanent spot in my vest. This thing does exactly what it’s supposed to—shock gobblers into giving up their location—and it does it consistently. The biggest standout is how realistic and sharp the tone is. It mimics both barred owl and great horned owl sounds, and the cadence comes through clean if you hit it right. Even if you’re not a pro caller, it’s forgiving and easy to learn. Within a few tries, you can get that classic “who cooks for you” rhythm dialed in, which is exactly what triggers those early morning gobbles. What I really like is how effective it is as a locator tool. When birds go quiet, this call can flip the switch. Owl calls are known for making turkeys “shock gobble,” and this one absolutely delivers—I’ve had birds fire back from a distance when nothing else was working. Build quality is solid too. It’s lightweight, compact, and tough enough to handle being tossed around in your vest. No moving parts, no nonsense—just grab it and go. It’s also loud enough to reach out across ridges but still controllable if you’re working closer birds. I had my doubts about this product because of the low price. But the first time I gave it a “hoot” I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not hard to do it right. I find it sounds best when covering all but the top hole. I had immediate responses from at least 3 different owls during my first outdoor use. I live in a heavily wooded area of NC so others may not experience the same response that I did. However, if there are any owls in your area at all I feel confident you will be hearing back from them shortly after using this product. You might even make a friend.

*Writing this review after Turkey Season* Sounds exactly like an owl hooting. As soon as it arrived my son opened it, stepped out onto the back deck and gave it a try. As he was playing around a turkey started gobbling in response. To say he was extremely excited is an understatement. He took it with him on all his hunts and tagged out this year, I can’t say it was all due to the owl hooting call, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.

I am not sure what to think of this thing. Is it me or the product or do we just have really smart owls? lol We have barred owls here and not once has this thing done any good with them. I have tried using it to attract them and nothing has happened. I have tried using it to talk with them when they are already here and it does nothing. In fact they will stop calling out completely if I use this thing. There are times I will talk to them with using my normal human voice and they still keep calling out. But bring this thing out and it is over. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them! Or if anyone knows something better suited to barred owls I would love to know too! I have tried apps with actual barred owl calls and I have the same experience as above. So maybe it is just my owls here... And just to add we have turkeys too and they haven't showed up for this either. But then again I am trying to mimic barred owl calls, not turkeys.

Good sound. Not as shown in the picture on the ad. The picture on the ad had feathers on the call whereas the one that came in the mail had a picture of a turkey. Yes I realize it is a turkey indicator; However, not as shown.
