will it fit in a car gas tank

Careful using this product to fill newer vehicles with a capless gas tank! I was able to insert the tube with no problem but it would not come out. I inserted it ~6 inches into the tank. Possible if you only inserted the length of the smooth part of a gas station nozzle (~3 inches) you wouldn't have a problem. If you do get the tube stuck in your gas station see this gentleman's handy video to remove it, which worked for me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqrWGTrr6nM

I need to siphon the gas out of a snow blower so I can have it loaded into a moving van. So from a small tank to a gas can. Would this work for that?

I use it primarily to siphon gas out of a portable 5 gallon tank into my boat. Works great! Be sure to find a YouTube video on hos it works. It's somewhat counter intuitive.I did try to siphon gas out of my car into the portable tank but the brass fitting did not fit into my car's gas tank. You should have no trouble, providing your snow blower has an ample entrance into its gas tank.

How can a siphon with a 6 foot hose be used as a backup sum pump?

If this is in a basement, it is not the right product for the job. The place you are siphoning TO must be LOWER than the place you are siphoning FROM. So it is impossible to use this product to "suck" water from the sump hole and lift it upwards.
