The Heart of Dominance: a guide to practicing consensual dominance

I read this book twice, SO GOOD! It was well written, practical as well as philosophical, and really helped me understand and think about the D/s dynamic. I can't wait for my boyfriend to read it as well.

Highly recommend this book. I have read 7 or 8 references on BDSM bottoming, topping,, etiquette and 'training' over the years. This is by FAR the most reasonable presentation of how to discuss Dominance with your partner and to build a useful vocabulary so that you can have an adult, measured conversation. Also has essential advice on how to avoid the pit falls of romanticized dominance and abusive dominance I recommend this as reading for anyone who is interested in either side of the dominance power exchange. New submissives will find this a primer on how to get their needs met while curtailing a lot of BS from bad doms. Dominants will find this a way to keep dewy eyed new submissives from wrecking anyone's life with false expectations. Dominant can ensures their needs are met as well as the submissives through the clearly outlined communication steps.

I have read many books on D/s always trying to better myself. Most of them go through some type of history and topical information about the experiences of the author, and just seem to be collections of stories. By far this book however is easily the most recommendable of the books out there. From beginning to end it answers crucial questions of "Why," such as why are we wanting what we want and why things really work in getting them. In terms of the multitude of important subjects it covers, it is more descriptive than other books of what is going on in the D/s dynamic, and what works and what doesn't, and again "why" that's so... It is written to be understood primarily from a Dom perspective. Also, refreshingly, and very intelligently, it is written in an gender neutral way which makes it much easier to read and saves a lot of effort to understand what is being communicated. This book is written by a pro and is the most must-have book out there in my opinion. This book is the chance to have a very very smart, competent, guru explaining things in depth, and doing it in a very clear way as if you and your partner are human.

Fantastic! Facilitating so many productive conversations and developments with my Hus/Dom! Essential reading for subs as well! I have a much better appreciation, higher admiration, and deeper respect for being able to see into his experience. The chapter on the 3 different ways subs unwittingly resist or usurp control in the dynamic was also very eye opening! I am a "Sprinter" and I never would have been able to articulate this because it was a massive blind spot to this ingrained pattern in my personality, and he was at the end of himseld trying to understand what to do with me, lol! I can become overeager and we were both aware it was problematic, but now we see exactly what it is and why and we are working on developing protocols to get that in check - and none of it requires me to feel guilty about being a "bad sub" either! Huge relief! Only minus 1 star because I wasn't really able to see our dynamic in any of the stories or little scripts he uses to illustrate his concepts. The author is transparent about his kink towards devaluation and cruelty, and thats a big trigger/boundry for me so it was distracting (also foound this to be the case in his other book) . Just a heads up for anyone who might find that triggering, because there are a couple of stories that felt that way to me... Still well worth the read to gain invaluable insights and the exercises to master different elements of dominance!

You would think that this is a book about BDSM, and in a general sense of things it is, but it speaks more to the fundamentals of all relationships; connections, trust, communication to name a few. I think that this should be a book for ALL relationships. If you are looking for a book to give you insight to flogging, roleplay, or any other kink, this is not the step by step book for you. This book is extremely responsible and informative in the way it talks about bdsm. It’s very articulate and you can tell the author is a smart guy with great morals who actually knows how to have fun while making sure the sub is also being treated fairly and having fun too. Extremely non judgmental, creative and sexy as well ;)

This book is about consensual D/S (I don't do the "S" in lowercase). I appreciate the emphasis on establishing and maintaining connection through constant communication. Fulmen, himself encourages readers to look at Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication. I've read, and continue to recommend The Loving Dominant. However, The Heart of Dominance is a more contemporary offering and more inclusive of diverse populations that comprise the kink community. After laying down some ground work for the reader to consider and work through, the author elaborates on six flavors of D/S and provides examples of how to explore each flavor. He notes that most folk in D/S relationships work with more than just one flavor. Fulmen has a wonderful writing voice, and interjects humor, making this a truly enjoyable read on top of being extremely informative. Honestly I feel that this should be mandatory reading for people considering or already in D/S relationships.

This book is one of the tools I use on a regular basis. It helped me understand and accept my true self. It helps me put words and structure around discussions and negotiations. It is one of the best in the field.

Anton Fulmen hat meiner Meinung nach die besten Bücher zum Thema D/s geschrieben. Super für Einsteiger geeignet. Ich habe unfassbar viel aus dem Buch, wie auch der Fortsetzung mitnehmen können. Auch, wenn sich die Bücher an D-Types richten, sind sie für s-Types nicht weniger wertvoll. Klare Empfehlung für alle, die dem Englischen halbwegs mächtig sind.

This book is a must-read if you are curious about playing with D/s dynamic, it is not just another list of rules and commands, it really does go to the heart of dominance, as it promises, which is the most intense and fulfilling intimacy.

This has been the best book I've procured in the subject. Essential reading if you want to take things seriously and be the best dom.

I had a lot of stigma towards this sort of kink which was getting in the way of accepting that I might actually enjoy it. If you're ever ashamed of your own desires I recommend reading this, you'll look at the world differently.
