Miraculous balance
I am not a musician, except some scales around seven 7 I've never played anything. God, I wish my parents weren't so permissive with my childhood. But somehow I consider myself born with Heifetz' Bruch and Vieuxtemps. When by the age of 12 I started buying my own vinyls this was among the first. It made me think that's normal, that's how they should sound like. Now, 40 years later before deciding to buy these concerts again, I listened to some 4 artists, some remarkably good technicians, others with a very moving way of feeling. I am not going to talk about the technique, it would be embarrassing from someone who can barely read a simple score. But, whether it's my affective memory or not, Heifetz' incredible restraint emotion, his austere yet passionate sound brings me to heights where I doubt any drug or hallucination can bring a human being. Just a tiny bit more emotion would transform this into a drawing-room ballad, just a bit more severity and they would both become complex violin exercises. Jasha is the balance king here.

Good Choice
I have always loved the recordings of Heifetz but I also chose this CD for its compilation. Other recordings to chose from had pieces I already have or do not care for. I heard the Bruch piece on the radio while driving and wanted to own it. I did not know the composer's work or not well and found the violin concerto no 1 most pleasing. The recording quality is very good and the pieces flow together nicely throughout the recording. Glad I bought it and keep it in the car for that long drive..

Absolutely classic interpretation and playing. Old recording beautifully remastered showcasing one of the greatest violinist of the 20th century. Again, there are many reviewrs more technical and descriptive than I could ever be, but this is simply beautiful music.

The best Scottish Fantasy on record.
For my taste, Jascha Heifetz has been the greatest violinist ever.He did many great recordings of principal violin works by the mostimportant composers. Max Bruch was for sure included in his repertoire,so we can listen here a wonderful Violin Concerto Nr.1, but the realhors concors belongs to the Scottish Fantasy, that is the best recordingof this work available. This is a gem from the complete Heifetz series.

Scottish Fantasy,
What can I say here, this is Heifetz, and the recording is excellent. If you like Classical Violin, you will like this Concerto. That'snot just my evaluation, that's the World's opinion. It's Heifetz!

Stunning In Every Sense
Yes, stunning in every sense. And I would add that your senses will be pleased you treated them to this sublime interpretation of the much-recorded Bruch Violin Concerto No 1. No one, in my humble opinion, quite matches Jascha Heifetz's skill and mastery of the instrument - even today and even considering mutter's beautiful ability. His playing of Bruch is full-bodied, fleet-fingered and brimful of feeling. The difference between the many recordings out there is the emotion bowed and fingered into every note and every bar. Heifetz is unsurpassed in this. Even Ms Hanslip doesn't manage to evoke such soul shaking sentiment from the 2nd movement, which is saying something. As others have written here, this piece never fails to bring a lump to my throat and cause tears to flow freely. This is a very special work and a must for any collection.

...and don't forget Vieuxtemps
Heifetz's quicksilver style is very impressive in the Vieuxtemps concerto, a hidden gem. Rob Cowan includes this work in his book "Classical 1000", and makes Heifetz his first choice in this and many other concertos. The stereo sound, from 1961, is good.
