Great read aloud for the whole family
This book captured all of our attention within the first few pages! We have loved the whole read and learning more about Switzerland, where it takes place. Highly suggest to add to your read aloud list!

Great book!
This was one of our read-aloud books. My kids were riveted by the story. It’s hard to find decent, simple, character developing stories, but this is definitely one of them!

Fantastic message, captivating, well written
This was a read-aloud book to my family as I was growing up and now read to my littles. Captivating story and very engaging and relatable. The kids can place themselves with the kids in the book and relate to their feelings and experiences. Great opportunities to teach character and moral lessons with our children and a wonderful gospel message shared between elders and children in the book. This is a well-loved book in our home.

Love this story
I have seen the movie a few times and knew I liked the story. The book is better than the movie because the movie tended to drag. The characters come alive, and the agony of hurt, retaliation and need for forgiveness is resolved well.

Beautiful story portraying Gods love and forgiveness!
I LOVED reading this story with my 8 year old daughter. It was definitely one that draws you in to the characters and story line. I love how the author portrayed God's truth, and used the picture of a house and letting Jesus come in to your house (heart) and bring His light to shine in you, helping you remove the bad feelings (sin). Author did a great job using the story to portray God's forgiveness and love. Excellent! Very pleased to have purchased this book, and will be ordering more by the same author.

A great book
Patricia St John was a nurse, missionary and author. Throughout her life, she travelled extensively in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, and she draws from these experiences in her novels. She has written other children's novels, but this is by far my favorite.I read it myself as a young teen, my children enjoyed reading it, and now I am reading it aloud to my grandchildren. This book is a gentle story that depicts the love of Jesus in a simple way. My grandchildren (ages 4- 9) enjoyed hearing this story read aloud every evening and it sparked many conversation about spiritual things (the danger of bitterness and revenge, forgiveness, reconciliation, courage, kindness, love and family).

My Favorite Patricia St. John Book
Of all Patricia St. John's books this one is my favourite. It is sweet and wholesome. It is great for the Christmas season. I recommend it for any child 6 years of age and over or any child who's attention span is able to handle a medium length fiction book. There is really no age limit on this book.

Very encouraging and full of great lessons!
Now here was an amazing and uplifting middle grade read!It is full of heart-felt lessons on forgiveness and selfless love. It's written from the perspective of children, so it is really creative and at times humorous. Since it takes place in the Swiss Alps around the 1930s, it is also incredibly beautiful and full of wonderful descriptions of farming life in the Alps.It is a great one to read to children or let them read for themselves. But I would suggest talking about the parts on "accepting Jesus into their hearts." The book does a great job of making it simple for children to understand, but depending on if you are Catholic or Protestant, you may want to go deeper or clarify certain things with your child. But I would also highly recommend for any adult to read as well! Sometimes we need to be reminded of these simple truths through stories. I think I was more encouraged in my faith by this kid's book than many adult non-fiction books!

Bellissimo
Per chi ama la storia di Annette e Lucien (da cui è tratto il cartone animato degli anni '80 "sui monti con Annette"). Il libro è in inglese, ma facile da leggere. Tante analogie col cartone animato. Bellissimo

This is a great book for all kids and had a lovely message ...
This is a great book for all kids and had a lovely message about friendship and forgiveness. I have bought it for many friends of my kids and Christian and non Christian parents seem to be fine with and it does have a strong Christian message. The story is well written and the feelings of children particularly good - anger, fustration, lonleyness all covered with understanding. I would recommend this to any child ages 8-15 to read on their own, but its also a great book to read to any child younger. I would also recommend this for adults to read - Grandma's advice is for everyone and we don't stop having those feelings because we get older. I wanted the german translation for a friend but can't seem to find it. If anyone knows how to get hold of it, I'd like to know. I have read all the Patricia St john books to my kids and they love them. Twice Freed is particularly good and great for history connection as well - much better than alot of modern books written at the time of Christ.
