Landscaping with Native Plants of the Southwest

When you move from the East Coast to the Southwest it is very difficult to know about existing plants or those that you might plant. This book is excellent because it provides pictures and needed information about Southwest plants. I recommend it highly.

Finally, a book on landscaping with native desert plants that's well-written, well-designed and illustrated, informative and a pleasure to read. (If one is familiar with the Sunset guide to Landscaping, this has a similar layout, writing style, and high quality color photos.) There's no fluff here, just everything one might wish to know in order to design a new garden or add to an existing one. There are chapters that explain the reasons one might choose to use natives, how to design a garden before getting started, how to create a dry garden or xeriscape, and individual chapters on selecting ground covers, vines, cacti, and wild flowers. There are numerous color photos to show what the plants look like and to provide examples of actual gardens. (Unlike the Sunset guides, the focus here is on gardens that we anyone would be able to create, instead of gardens for million-dollar homes with infinity pools.)This will be my go-to guide when I design and plant my desert garden.

This is a perfect book for the beginner landscaper in the southwest. Although it does not go into great detail about specific plants, it does give a good general description of the plants of the southwest.

I live in the desert, dry and humid but wanted pretty landscaping around my new home....this book helped me out so much...with tips, and great pics plus on the spot zoning.....I recommend to anyone.

If you are moving to or living in the Southwest and want to do your own landscaping at any level this is a very helpful book I might even call it a must have!
