After trying out several cheaper spoons, I broke down and purchased this for $20. It was pricey for a spoon but it works perfectly for retrieving soft cooked eggs. The flat end of the bowl of the spoon fits against the pan & makes the egg "escape proof" and the bowl of the spoon is the perfect size to cradle the small soft egg. The spoon slots allow for a perfect drain and done! If I ONLY used the spoon for this, it would be perfect. The spoon is well-made (It's All-Clad- expect nothing less) and should last a long, long time. I love well made products (e.g. not throw-away) things. Add this one to your Christmas list.

I had an older aluminum one inherited from my mom, who may have gotten it from her mom. I used it for many years until it finally broke. I looked for a replacement for a long time (pre-internet) and eventually gave up on finding one. When I saw AllClad offering both a slotted and solid version I was so excited! These make the BEST gravy spoons! They’re also indispensable for any dish that requires constant stirring. If you cook regularly you won’t regret buying this. It’s a much better quality in stainless steel- very solid feel and performance.
