A great book with an absorbing story
A great book with an absorbing story. I was captivated the entire time I was reading. Ms. Pyron is an excellent writer and storyteller. I should mention that I'm not a young adult reader, I'm 71. I can understand some of the critical reviews that have said this story is perhaps too intense for a 10 year old. To me, it's like reading Harry Potter - a good story is a good story regardless of your age. However, there are some pretty sad and gritty scenes in the book so parents with younger children might want to screen.I look forward to reading more of Ms. Pryon's books.Joe Jennings, Author, Ghosts of Iwo Jima: A story about battles, ghosts, and two very special dogs (Sam and Gunny Book 1)

Awesome and sad
This is a wonderful book and while amazing was quite sad at the same time. I loved it and would recommend it to kid that r at least 10 so they understand it more. Over all great book. I compliment the writer.P. S.: This the first time I've cried over a book.😢😁

Incorrect advertising
The book was advertised as a hardcover but in fact is a paperback. Not what we expected. Paperback was in good shape however.

easy to read story based on the life of a ...
Fascinating, easy to read story based on the life of a poor child in Soviet Russia who was one of millions of street children. He was about 4 or 5 years old living on the streets, in the subway, and eventually out in the woods being cared for, and taking care of, a pack of wild dogs. It is a really well written story that can be for middle or high school students. Then go online and look up Ivan and his real life story. I highly recommend this book. Told from a child's point of view. Great for discussion and learning about politics and the economy if you wish to take it to that level. Youtube videos of feral children are poignant.

Good story line until the end. Then more suited for teens
What a dismal sad tale. Even worse by the though that this really happened. I was saddened by the conclusion. Nit sure children would understand the ending. My 9 year old is reading this and I think the end needed some explanation.

Excellent Book!
I loved this book and the wonderful, if painful story about this boy and the dogs who made him a part of their pack. It made me go and dig into the known facts about his life and in doing so learned a lot about people and attitudes at that time. Well worth reading, especially if you are a dog lover although this will interest anyone whether they are a dog affectionado or not.

Dogs & Little Boy Survives
The little boy (Dog Boy) who is only 5 years old...how caring he is to help these dogs and how the dogs take care of him in return. Such a moving relationship. Touching my heart on how this little boy and a pack of dogs you can tell love one another.

A sad but true story
There are a few stories similar to this one but none more captivating, reading about this little boys struggle from infant abuse to living feral I truly feel for the freedom of the boy within the book. This story got me interested in feral children and how they were treated; often poorly with no real regard for what was best for them. Part of me wanted to see the boy escape back with his pack, it was heartbreaking when the ending was not what I hoped but it was realistic. I feel like this would make a great book to use in a classroom as awareness for other cultures and homelessness.
