Two new pals have arrived on the scene: Cowgirl Kate and her stubborn, but devoted cowhorse, Cocoa. Together they count the herd, ride the range, and, of course, argue till the cows come home--as only best friends can do. With its spirited text and bright, humorous illustrations by Caldecott Honor recipient Betsy Lewin, this first book in the Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa series is bound to be a hit with young wranglers everywhere. This title has been selected as a Common Core Text Exemplar (Grades 2-3, Stories) Review: Cute series installment - This series is a lovely one; Silverman has a nice sense of humor and a good feel for the pacing of the story and how to give readers a satisfying ending. Cocoa is a fun character and reminds me of a cow horse I once knew. In this installment, Cocoa is determined to live in the house, and Kate is even more determined to get him back out into the barn before her parents return. Betsy Lewin's illustrations are great, especially when it comes to Cocoa's expressions. I would recommend any of this series. My 3 1/2 year old boy really likes them--we're at our max renewal with them from the library and I'm slowly adding them to our home collection as Christmas and birthday allow. If you're looking for other good books, my son also keeps going back to the Mr. Putter & Tabby, and Henry & Mudge series, both by Cynthia Rylant. Review: Fun, smart and well written! - Cowgirl Kate Series is fun, smart and well written. I read a number of horse books in this age range, and this was THE BEST. I bought the whole series. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #55,748 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #91 in Children's Horse Books (Books) #1,081 in Children's Beginner Readers #1,654 in Children's Friendship Books | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 259 Reviews | ## Images ![Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa: A Geisel Honor Chapter Book about Friendship and Ranch Adventures for Children (Ages 6-9) - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71L512ZDQML.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cute series installment *by K***E on January 26, 2013* This series is a lovely one; Silverman has a nice sense of humor and a good feel for the pacing of the story and how to give readers a satisfying ending.
