Nice fill in before dentist
This product works well when you are waiting to get to the dentist. Keeps your tongue from “exploring” the hole where the filling was. Also more comfortable to eat. Does not last long. Though. Sometimes only a couple hours and the most two days. Flavor tastes like the dentist-yuk!!!! Easy to use. I rinse out with the Listerine that kills 99% of germs before putting product in my “hole”, but this is only my idea. Not even sure if it works but gives my comfort anyway.

don't waste your money
I bought this because half of my molar on my lower right side just broke and I don't have insurance or money to fix it right now. I read the reviews and thought, surely this would hold until I get my check. So I get my product the next day, and I follow the instructions exactly. This is where things get tricky. It says to scoop some out, roll it in a ball and put it in the hole or spot where the tooth is missing, right? BUT, this mess is sticky AF and rolling it around just made a mess. I tried but I ended up just putting some on my finger, and pressing it into the missing tooth area. It just would not stay. I tried and tried. I finally got some and rubbed it off into the tooth, and left it alone to dry. I didn't eat anything or drink anything for hours. It seemed to be in there good, right? After about 5 hours I decided to eat something. Yep, this crap fell right out and I ended up swallowing it. So I tried again, and this time I put it in before bed, and didn't eat or drink anything the entire night. I went to bed at about midnight, and I just ate for the first time, at 11am. That is 11 hours that it had to dry. Then, I decided to eat something, a sandwich, pretty soft and easy. Just some ham and cheese on white bread. This doggone thing popped out my tooth AGAIN. I am fed up. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Adhesion poor. Disappointed.
After following the instructions to the letter several times, I still found my loose crown came loose again within just a few hours. I never used that tooth to chew anything so the adhesive loosened on its own. I repeated using it 3 different times thinking perhaps I'd done something wrong but got the same failure all those times as well. I'm disappointed in a product supposed to have maximum strength. I even waited 3 full hours before even drinking anything to allow it to set as the instructions explained but still no go. A waste of money.

Works for a short term fix
I bought this to replace a filling that fell out after my last cleaning. The tooth is scheduled to be crowned later this month so I needed something to get me thru the two week gap until then. The thing is the filling I am replacing is/was huge. I mean the size of a pencil eraser...even a little bigger. Initially there was half a pocket for the material to cling too a little but the side that was left broke off so now there is just the roots of the tooth, which is a molar, with a little bit of tooth edge but not much. So this is really not a typical lost filling scenario. That said, it took a little trial and error to come up with the best way to handle my situation. In the end what works best is to use a small ball and pressed it into the top of what is left of the tooth. Pressing it down a few times to get out any pockets too seems to help - the more contact it has with the tooth the better. I found out pretty quick it takes some time to dry before you can really chew on it. I recommend you apply it before bed so it has the entire night to harden. It definitely works a lot better if it has longer to cure. It still only last about a day or so before it crumbles and needs to be replaced.Too be fair though, my situation is a bit extreme. If you are just replacing a normal size filling it should stay in place a lot longer than is has for me. In the end it gets the job done and is holding me over until I can see my dentist. Thankfully it is not expensive and you get a lot for the money...which comes in handy in a situation like mine.

Do not recommend the pre-mixed version!
I'm updating a previous review, which you'll find below -- unfortunately knocking this specific product down from 5 to 2 stars ... what you need to understand is there are (at least) two versions of this product. One, in which you mix the cement yourself, which I describe below -- and the other where the cement is pre-mixed in a tiny container. The latter is what I bought most recently, to replenish my Dentemp supply -- however the former is what I originally reviewed -- when I didn't realize there were two different formulations. So I had cemented a crown back in place with the manually mixed cement and it did better than I expected, lasting 9 days with pretty much regular eating/chewing habits. When it came loose yesterday, I broke out the new package of Dentemp and tried the pre-mixed cement. Well, it was a total fail. The "cement" has the consistency of chewing gum just removed from your mouth and is very difficult to work with. I tried several times to re-cement the crown but each time the cement left the tooth sitting too high, preventing a normal bite.Fortunately I had one more pack of the old stuff, so this time I did NOT use the entire envelope of powder as instructed, but just a small amount. Then I added a few drops of the liquid and mixed to a slurry type consistency as before. This did the trick, and I hope to get another week or so out of this, as my dentist is closed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.ORIGINAL REVIEW HERE:What I'm actually reviewing here is a package of Dentemp I had in my first aid kit at home for, I dunno, maybe 10 years. Have always been curious if the stuff ever worked. Well, along comes COVID-19 and in the midst of the pandemic, and on a Saturday night, one of my crowns pops off while flossing ... so I'm like:It's GO TIME, Dentemp, let's see whatcha got!!!I honestly had no idea what would even be inside the package. Well, there's an envelope of powder labeled zinc oxide, a tiny tube of brown liquid called somethingorother, a little plastic tub and a little wooden stick. You put the powder in the tub, followed by the liquid, then mix them with the stick until formed into a light brown paste. Apply the paste to the underside of the crown and stick the thing back in place. Easy peasy. Says it takes about an hour to fully set.My only complaint at this stage was that the ratio of powder to liquid was off -- too much powder -- but no big deal. Once the paste started to form I just dumped out the excess powder. It makes PLENTY of cement, enough to fix half a dozen crowns probably. That being said, I was delighted to see that Dentemp has changed its formulation to a pre-mixed cement -- as long as it holds as well as the old stuff ...Did not venture to brush that night, just swished my mouth with some Closys mouthwash ...Next morning I ate French toast for breakfast, and tried to eat softer foods the rest of the day. No problem. It's now the following Tuesday and I've had no problems whatsoever. Able to eat whatever I want, just taking a little extra care to avoid chewing anything crunchy or tough on that side. Good thing too, because looks like my dentist's office may be closed for the next few weeks at least. I did talk to him on the phone incidentally, and he said he was familiar with the product and saw no problem leaving it in for an extended period of time, if needed.Anyway, so I ordered a few more packs of Dentemp just in case I need them, either sooner or later.Probably one of the best $5 or whatever I ever spent, those years ago.
