Seems to be a very good machine
It's pretty unreasonable to expect any electric razor to give a close shave in a pass or two; manufacturers can't possibly know how fast a "pass" will be, or at what angle whiskers are growing. One always has to do many passes over cheek or neck from different angles to get a very smooth result. That's life.I've been a Panasonic user for 11 years. Have always gotten a very close shave. First one lasted 3 years. Last one has lasted 8 years...and without changing any foils or blades! (And my beard is no softer than anyone's.) So Panasonic has been good value for me.However, Panasonic has gotten incredibly expensive, and they all have "arc" shapes which is opposite what a face needs...and they went down the "ultra high rpms" road, which I believe is wasted wear and tear...not to mention loud. 13,000 new whiskers can't possibly find themselves into the same foil hole in a second's time. At most a dozen, and likely far less. So a couple hundred rpm ought to be more than enough. That was part of my theory when I went looking for alternatives to the Panasonic price tag. I've tried rotary models (Norelco) which work quietly but don't give nearly as close a shave (although they do the job enough to go to work and such). And I've tried a Remington foil model, but found that Remington gets their money not up front but on foil replacements--the foil warps and then tears/breaks after 3 months. Not good.So this time I tried Braun. Didn't need any fancy clean-and-lube features (skin has a little oil on it anyway). This Braun 340s is very nice. Much quieter than the Panasonic, slower speed, low-frequency rumble...but the shave is just as good. Could even be superior, although I'm comparing a new Braun to an 8-year-old Panasonic. Still, it takes me no longer to shave than it ever did. Braun says their foils have hole openings that aren't uniformly round, and that probably helps the result. An admittedly bizarre-sounding side benefit which no one ever mentions is that the low rumble vibration of the Braun is low enough frequency that your face can feel it. It's a bit like a face muscle massage (compared to the Panasonic). Sounds ridiculous? Yeah, well, the face has a lotta muscles, believe it or not; keeping them "fit" and flexible has been shown to keep a face from sagging and making a guy look like a 100-year-old basset hound before he's all that old. If I care enough to want to shave, I care enough to not have jowls before my time. The Braun feels good on the muscles. (I don't know, maybe I need it because I grimace too much.) For what it's worth....This Braun shaver has a solid, durable feel to it. Has a small charging stand that's all you need. Seems to charge quickly. The side-burns/moustache trimmer is superior to the one on my Panasonic. It's just as easy to dump whiskers out of the Braun. And (sorry to be so graphic, but) the whisker dust is a lot less fine, courtesy once again of the lower frequency. You can see the diff very easily. And there's a lot more of it when it's dumped out--which means my Panasonic was chopping whiskers into a dust so fine it was losing that dust out the foil holes...onto the bathroom counter, my shirt, etc. I never knew it until now.Bottom line, I like the Braun a lot. Can't speak about how long the battery, foils or blade will last, as I've only had it about a month. Feels durable. Since you can also get a better deal with a Braun, I expect this 340s to give me equal (maybe superior) value to the Panasonic models I've used before. If my Panasonic's battery was still lasting through a full shave every day (which it wasn't), I wouldn't have shopped for a Braun. But if, like me, it's time for you to consider a new razor, I'd recommend this Braun 340s. Good machine.

Better than Norelco
After my Philips Norelco finally stopped holding a charge (conveniently right after the 2 year warranty was up), I was disappointed to say the least; I've been a faithful Philips customer for years but after this round I finally decided to give something else a go. Boy was I blown away by this machine! Fits perfect in the hand and feels solid. I've always been partial to the rotary style of the norelco but this foil is above the rest in its comfort and efficiency in cutting hair. Cuts in 4 directions (up down & side to side) which becomes convenient after a while; especially if I've got to shave around some hair I'd like to keep like this month's random goatee. Anyway, super quiet and easy to clean; lots easier than my ol faithful norelcos. The charging mechanism is unique in that you can attach the cable to the dock and charge it that way or attach the cable directly to the razor; gives some flexibility with space restrictions... and if you lose the dock you're not upstream without a paddle if you know what I mean; like when I moved and when I unpacked my Norelco the wife had packed the dock separately in another random box which was (of course) at the bottom of the stack of boxes in the garage... anyway, glad to see that this will be avoidable with this device.Cons:Trimmer is ok, I like the extension style of my norleco's better just for ease of use. But I'm sure I'll change my opinion once I get used to this one's style.I wish it came with a pouch or case or something, but for the price what do you expect? This thing is far underpriced compared to the competition. I've paid over $100 for norelco's in the past and this one is superior in my opinion.Other pros: my wife stole it one day to shave her underarms when her sugaring goop ran out unexpectedly. Liked it so much I had to buy another one! She said something like, "It is very gentle, very quick, cuts close and overall it is such a good razor, hon you just might want to buy yourself one because this one is mine now!" Crazy. Anyway, for any of you women out there looking for an electric razor, this will do the job very well.

Does the job at an affordable price, but not exactly "blade close."
I bought this to replace a ten year old electric that I used for a quick touch up between blade shaves. I've used this one by itself for the last few weeks and I find that it does a reasonably good job. The initial charge experience was a bit strange, because the green charge light does NOT stay lit throughout the charging process. I thought that there was a problem, but I contacted Braun Tech services and found out this was normal. The initial charge took about seven or eight hours and I now charge it for about an hour once a week when the red low battery light turns on.The razor itself shaves relatively close on face, cheek, and chin areas. I find that I need to spend a lot of time with the trimmer on the neck and upper lip area. I generally daily shave after my morning shower. I do NOT use this in the shower though I think you can. It cleans easily under running water and there is a small brush that helps. It appears to be well sealed enough to use in the shower, but that's just not my routine. It's not as close as a blade shave, but it does fine for me. It has improved after a few weeks as my face has adapted to regular use of an electric again. There was a little redness and irritation on my neck for the first few days. This is a reasonably priced alternative to the electrics with the fancy cleaning systems that can cost $200-$400. I just can't see spending that amount of money. I also think that it's crazy to spend $3 or $4 a week for disposable razors or blades. This is a much more environmentally friendly and economical alternative in my opinion. I look forward to years of regular use. though I may hang on to my blade razor to use once a week or so for a really close shave. It should be noted that the manufacturer recommends changing the screen and cutter assembly about every eighteen months. These seem to be fairly available on Amazon at a cost in the mid $20 range.

Buena compra

First Braun
The shaver shipped and arrived scary fast.out of the box it seemed like a solid well put together shaver, I thought ide try something different this time as ive always used rotaries and phillips. This is my first braun.i have medium thickness facial hair so I tried it out real quick on my neck before I charged it overnight and it for sure will do me just fine and is easily as good if not better than my phillips that I ruined and could have fixed but just said to heck with and threw it away.this new shaver looks nice, feels good in the hand and does give a great shave.plus for 77$ which included tax and the ultra speedy shipping im pretty sure youde be hard pressed to find a better deal out there.theres nothing cheap or flimsy about this shaver, feels like one of those silly 250 dollar shavers, exept it was only 77 and will do a fine job of shaving my face.ill pretend I dont notice but I have a feeling when my wife sneaks it and does a quick leg shave, it wont irritate her skin which is more sencative than mine.quality item, glad I bougnt it, no regrets at all, except for my old phillips.looking forward to trying out a wetshave.its on youtube, braun 3340s, check it out.

Perfect shaver for my usage!
Got it and used it a whole month now, and it is really great. I charged it twice, for fun because I didnt go out of battery :-pI shaved every two or three days with it, almost always dryed-beard. If your beard is a little bit too long, let say 4mm and up, it starts pulling a little. So I just activate the trimmer , give a shot everywhere and then use the head of the shaver. Really superb! I love itIt comes with a protector for the road and a base to charge it instead of pluggin it on and off with the cable.

Good product, though a bit slower than my older razor
I've used Remington for years and thought I'd try Braun. I notice it takes me a bit longer to shave for some reason, but overall I'm pretty happy with this razor. I haven't used it in the shower or anything, but I do rinse the razor head and screen off regularly, which is nice to be able to do. It needs charging about once a week. The razor comes with a plastic cover that snaps on well and also covers the power button, which is really nice when you're traveling. The last thing you want is something buzzing in your luggage when you go through airport security! Or, arrive at your hotel for a 2-day trip and you didn't bring your charger.
