A-Z of Stumpwork: The Ultimate Reference and Design Source for Stumpwork Embroiderers (A-Z of Needlecraft)

Could be better
It’s an ok book, I think it could have been better, it has detail explanations of some stichs but no picture or illustrations of how to do the embroidery design. It gets confusing and a little hard to follow as a beginner. I don’t think it is a A to Z of stumpwork as the book title says…

Stitching with Style
I'm new to stumpwork, and so this is one of my first books on the subject. I do have a few other books in this series, and have really found them helpful. The best thing about them is the photo-illustration. And directions. Very clear. Very helpful. A lot of other books simply do illustration-style diagrams--that's just not enough for me. That said, this book probably wouldn't help a very experienced stumpwork embroiderer. Also included are actual instructions for patterns (like, there is one for a realistic-looking rabbit, another for a branch of flowers) you could easily use in your work. I have not done any of these as I generally free-hand everything.I 100% recommend this book, and I am going to explore the other books (aside from the ones I have) in this series too, because if the ones I own are all this well done, the others probably are as well.

Good content, poor page images
All the A-Z books are great resources, and this one is no exception. The problem with this book is the poor reproduction of the pages; they are all slightly blurred. The other Kindle embroidery books I have have excellent quality images that do not degrade when enlarged for viewing details. I wish this one was done as well. It is usable, but in this case a paper copy might be preferable.

easy to turn pages
This was very well written and illustrated. It includes a variety of projects with varying degrees of difficulty. Patterns are included. I have never done Stumpwork; only embroidery and had no trouble following the instructions. This is a banquet of a book with lots of full color photos to feast your eyes upon. It is well bound with a hard, glossy cover and smooth, easy to turn pages. Stumpwork A to Z is one of the best 'how to' guides I've used.

Not a thorough reference, but nice
I was expecting only a few projects at the back of this book, and was disappointed to discover that only a third of this slim volume contained detailed step-by-step stitch diagrams. The directions and photographs are excellent, with clear photographs and writing. However, the patterns aren't general enough (such as"flower shapes" or "leaf shapes") to be all that useful for reference. Some of stitching in the patterns isn't of the quality that inspires me; For that, I'd recommend any of Jane Nicholas' books. However, I'm glad I purchased this book, at a discounted price, for what it does offer. It's a good starting place for a beginner in stump work who already knows general embroidery stitches.

Another gorgeous reference book!
In my humble opinion this is one of the best books on stumpwork on the market! But if you are familiar with the A-Z series of books this wont surprise you. Amazing detailed pictures of each step with crystal clear instructions and sumptous projects! The only drawback I found was its lack of any figures. It's flowers, berries, mushrooms and animals. If you are just starting out in stumpwork I would recommended this book with Kay Dennis' book "Beginner's Guide to Stumpwork". Plenty of wonderful projects to keep you busy for quite a while!

Good Value
I bought this as I was so pleased with the crewel work A - Z book and thought I might try something different. This is a nice book with plenty of help and information but I was not inspired by the projects.
