This is such a fun game! My husband and I used to play Magic, and we've been playing Hearthstone. This game is a crazier, more fun version of those games. We even taught his parents how to play! In the game guide, it has a game that you actually set up with the cards, and it walks you through how to play. I found that really helpful! If you're on the fence about the game, I'd really recommend you go ahead and buy it!

Ideal for two players!
This game is great! It's so nice to find a truly fun game that is meant for two players. My husband and I have a great time with Gruff.

This is the best game I have ever played that involves mutated goats
This is the best game I have ever played that involves mutated goats. Really though, its a nice sound good 1v1 game, haven't tried 3 or 4 player. Cards and everything including the box are top quality.

I check out Gruff initially because I like goats. The concept of monster goats that change and evolve as you play made me pretty happy. The art pushed me over the edge though, and I bought it without a second thought. Gruff is really very pretty, the art, just look great. The box is designed to look like the mouth of a monstrous goat, and each and every goat is it’s own creature with it’s own vivid illustration. The game’s physical design is one of the first things that sets it apart from other games, the box comes with two different sizes of cards, 48 sliders (for measuring stats) a rulebook and a tiny plastic model of one of the Goats. The longer cards represent your Goats and your Shepherds, and have their stats listed on the edges of the card so that the sliders can easily keep track of your stats as they change (and they frequently do) during gameplay. Each individual goat card (15 total) comes with 15 cards that match it’s art and belong to that one goat. So when you organize your box, the longer goat cards act as dividers to their decks, which make assembling your team super convenient. When you play, you and your opponent each choose three goats, and one of seven shepherds, and then build a deck of abilities, buffs, debuffs and defenses by taking 8 of the 15 cards that go with each goat. This is my favorite thing about Gruff, the ability to create my strategy and playstyle from the ground up every time I play. There are five different factions, and different factions and goats are better at different things, different abilities can drastically change the course of gameplay and the balance of power. If I had any complaint, it’s that all of the details of Gruff can seem over whelming at first, but this really by my second game it felt like second nature and I could focus on my own strategies. If you decide to buy Gruff, give the rules (and the cards) a thorough read, and give it a couple of games with the tutorial decks, then, go crazy!

Excellent thematic deck construction game!
A very intricate deck construction card game with amazing artwork and theme. The battles are brutal and tactical and it solves many of the problems of Games like Magic by decreasing luck and making a strategic economy for card play.

The artwork is cool, but the game mechanics seem pedestrian
Meh, it's ok. The artwork is cool, but the game mechanics seem pedestrian, not as streamline or clean as other card games. When a goat dies, it's card is turned over and remains that way until it's resurrected- keeping what ever stats it had before it died.
