## Description

desertcart.com When it's time to gaze at the stars or take in some long-distance or low-light terrain viewing, look no further than the Celestron 71007 SkyMaster 12 x 60 binoculars. Featuring high quality BAK-4 prisms, multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast, a diopter adjustment for fine focusing, and large apertures, these binoculars offer phenomenal performance. The Celestron 71007 features a 12x magnification and an objective lens diameter of 60 millimeters, giving it a 5-millimeter exit pupil. (The exit pupil size -- the diameter of the objective lens divided by the magnification -- determines the amount of light available to your eye. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image obtained will be. A three-millimeter exit pupil is generally sufficient for daytime use, five-millimeters is suitable for daytime and twilight, and seven-millimeters is generally necessary for maximum nighttime or astronomy use.) The Celestron 71007 also includes a tripod adapter and Celestron's No Fault Limited Lifetime Warranty. What's in the Box Celestron 71007 Binoculars and carrying case Product Description Celestron has designed and engineered the larger SkyMaster models to meet the unique demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions. These large & powerful binoculars ensure high performance in all weather conditions and are ideal for astronomical viewing or terrestrial (land-based) viewing over long distances. These binoculars can be handheld. However, due to their size and weight, you may want to mount them on a standard photographic tripod for long-duration observing sessions. Simply attach the binocular to your own (user-supplied) binocular tripod adapter using the ¼”-20 attachment. The adapter connects to most photo tripods in seconds. Astronomers have praised the Celestron SkyMaster for decades for its high-quality BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics, which enhance contrast and bring out bright, sharp images—especially in low light conditions. The binocular features soft, comfortable rubber eyecups that block stray light. Eyeglass wearers can fold down the eyecups and view with their eyeglasses on. Your purchase of the Celestron SkyMaster 12x60 binoculars includes the objective lens caps, a rainguard, a deluxe carrying case, a neck strap, a lens cloth, and an instruction manual. Buy with confidence from the world’s No.1 telescope brand and a leading binocular manufacturer, based in California since 1960.

Review: Great binoculars for the price - Very nice views and love the build quality. I have included some pics of various magnifications and objective lens size and light gathering abilities. First pic is 8x42, next is 10x50, next is 12x60, next is 20x80, and last is with the unaided eye.
Review: Must have for star gazers - I just came in from my first night with these and I love them. For comparison I also have the Celestron 25x70 binoculars and a Celestron Nexstar 8SE. I like the 25x70s, but they do really need to be on a tripod mount for comfortable and stable viewing. I got these for nights when I just want to lay in a lawn chair and look at the sky. 12x60 was just a little extra oomph compared to 10x50 but I still had no trouble holding them still enough for a good picture. Unlike my 25x70s the collimation on these was good right out of the box. The magnification is enough to see the disc of Jupiter and its moons. Saturn is clearly an oval shape, but not with much detail. Andromeda can be seen, and based on my experience with other binoculars the Pleiades will also look amazing (better than in a telescope actually, due to the FOV). Some open star clusters and double stars are also doable. And of course, the moon. I highly recommend these for new astronomers. Binoculars offer better bang-for-buck at this price range than a telescope will, and the wider FOV is very useful as you learn to search the sky. I'd also recommend them for those with a telescope too. It's nice to have optics that are literally just grab and go, especially on nights when the weather makes you question the effort.

## Features

- POWERFUL 12X MAGNIFICATION: Large astronomy binoculars with large 60mm objective lenses and 12x power. Perfect for long-distance land-based viewing or astronomical observation.
- WORKS WITH YOUR TRIPOD: These binoculars can be handheld. Due to their size and weight, some users mount them on a standard photo tripod (not included) for long-duration viewing sessions.
- BRIGHT, SHARP VIEWS WITH BaK-4 PRISMS: The SkyMaster is a favorite among those who view in dim conditions near dawn and dusk or at night for astronomy. BaK-4 prisms maximize light throughput to your eye so you see brighter, more detailed images.
- DURABLE AND WATER-RESISTANT: A rubber-armored housing protects your binoculars from damage and provides a secure gripping surface. The water-resistant exterior stands up to tough conditions and unexpected rainy weather.
- UNBEATABLE WARRANTY & CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Buy with confidence from Celestron, a leading optics brand in California since 1960. Your purchase includes a Celestron Limited Lifetime US Warranty & US-based expert tech support.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: compare th field of view of th 12x60 to th 15x70 ?**
A: Angular field of view of 12 x 60s: 5.3 degrees. Same spec for 15 x 70s: 4.4 degrees. See specifications of products at www.celestron.com.

**Q: Can these be hand held for short periods of time (15-20 minutes) for casual astronomy. Is this a good canidate for ues in conjuction with a telescope.**
A: Short answer: yes

More nuanced answer: sorta

For an adult, 12x60 is just about the largest, most powerful glasses that will be practical to handhold. 12x magnification is on the high side for handheld astronomy; they will require frequent rest breaks. The higher the magnification, the shakier the image will be and of course the heavier the shakier. The view however, should be pretty stunning.

For the average beginner, 10x50 is probably a more satisfying choice, simply because they'll be much easier to use. Just about the all around best, however, is 7x50; also ideal for children. They're economical, ubquitous and the 7x magnification is very forgiving with a stunningly wide angle, bright and rich view. 7x50 will show Jupiter as a small, bright, featureless disc with a line of dim yellow 'stars' across it. Saturn will not show the rings, but will appear as distinctly different from a star and while very small, may appear vaguely football shaped. Any combination of 7 - 12x and 42 - 63mm is a great companion to a small telescope, for scanning and planning, or just casual stargazing.

**Q: are these to heavy to watch a football game**
A: They're pretty heavy to be holding up to your eyes for long periods of time. I bought mine for stargazing and added the tripod adapter. I'd go with something lighter for use at a three hour long football game.

**Q: Does this 12x60 have acessable screws to adjust the collimation, if necessary?**
A: Yes. The best place on the net that I am aware of that shows how to collimate the celestron skymaster series of binoculars is oddly enough the Oberwerk binocular website. The Oberwerk Light Series is basically the same binocular as the Celestron Skymasters. The Oberwerk might have slightly better coatings on the optics for about twice the price. Just go to Oberwerk.com/support/collimate for everything you need to know.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality, work great, but the value?
*by D***S on September 16, 2025*

This review is for the Celestron SkyMaster 12x60 Binoculars. I purchased these binoculars for celestial viewing, stargazing and to watch satellites zip across the night skies. I had originally purchased the Skymaster 25x70 binoculars which are outstanding in their own right. However, for my purposes the 25x70's were to heavy for hand held viewing and are best used with a tripod exclusively. Pro's of the 12x60 SkyMasters 1. BaK-4 Prisms offer crisp clear images, the binoculars are easy to adjust and focus, Field of View is outstanding. 2. Built well, rubber grips make holding the binoculars easy, even in difficult conditions or while wearing gloves. 3. The binoculars are designed for celestial use, however they work great for terrestrial viewing as well. 4. Water Resistant, the binoculars are not "waterproof" remember, these binoculars are designed for celestial viewing. If you will be using your binoculars near water, consider binoculars with marine specs. 5. Protective lens cups are made from good quality rubber, fit firmly on the lenses, but are easy to remove. 6. Although the 12x60 binoculars do not offer the higher magnification found in their larger siblings, you can easily see the moons craters, really viewing the moon regardless of the phase is impressive. 7. The binoculars offer great magnification while still very manageable when viewing by hand, weight approx. 2.4 lbs. 8. Value, I purchased these binoculars for 83 dollars on sale, they should have came with a tripod adapter and a better neck strap, more on that later... still a good value for the product itself. 9. Storage case is a good nylon material with cloth lining and a shoulder strap. 10. The instruction manual is easy to follow and printed on large quality paper. Most people won't look at it, but hey, a Pro is a Pro right? Cons. 1. The binoculars are tripod adaptable with a standard 1/4-20 screw port located on the front of the bridge. A tripod adaptor is not included with the 12x60 Skymaster, however a tripod adaptor is included with the 15x70 Skymasters. I'm assuming this is because once you go beyond a 60mm objective lens, using a tripod is a more practical application. This notwithstanding, when I purchased the 12x60 Skymasters for 83 dollars US, the 15x70's were on sale for 81 dollars US. A moot point except a good quality tripod adaptor cost anywhere from 18 to 30 dollars. If indeed you will be using your binoculars with a tripod more than by hand, consider the 15x70's as you will most likely be looking for a higher level of magnification anyway. 2. As noted, the binoculars weight approx. 2.4 lbs. this is not an unmanageable weight for most adults, however the neck strap that is advertised on the products page is not what I personally received. I received a very small 1/4 inch wide strap with no clips or reasonable means to secure the strap (see photo). To be fair, I did contact Amazon and they provided funding to purchase a suitable neck strap (photo below), regardless it really isn't their problem to solve. Celestron needs to do a better job in regard to accessories. At the very least, provide what's being advertised and have clean photo images so the consumer knows what they are getting. Note: It is for the lack of correct accessories or the absence thereof, not the performance or the quality of the binoculars themselves that I gave the 12x60 SkyMaster Binoculars 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The packaged items and accessories do not change, regardless of the sale prices. When the 12x60 SkyMaster Binoculars are not on sale, they retail for 109 dollars US, and for that price point, you should be provided a quality neck strap. I own a nice tripod and adaptors so not having a tripod adaptor included was not a problem for me, although as a consumer, I believe every penny counts. Celestron would benefit their customers if they included a tripod adaptor with each of the Skymaster products.
