Imparts an authentic flavor
Looks like the picture in the product introduction. Adds a nutty, umami flavor to Konkani or Maharashtrian dishes. Usually meats or young jackfruit. Use sparingly and in proportion. When in doubt about proportion consult an expert- usually mother/grandmother etc

mushrooms used in certain recipes not always easy to find
was very happy to find these on Amazon as I have a couple East Indian recipes that call for them and they were not easy to find - reasonable price for the amount received

Don't be fooled
The picture is an idealized picture of the product. The real product comes in a celephane bag of broken pieces just like all the other products of this kind.

Not what was ordered
I received what I ASSUME is supposed to be this product Dagad Phool ; it came in a small cardboard box with no external markings indicating that it was from the seller, shipper an individual instead of a company name, and no packing slip or any other identification inside: just a small plastic bag with about 60 grams of a coarse black and brown substance, (grains much larger than sand or salt, more like small gravel). The item is nothing like the picture on the Amazon web page, and it does not have the earthy musky smell of Dagad Phool either. My best guess is that it is some kind of rock salt. Perhaps it was shipped by mistake: Dagad or Pathar means rock or stone in several North Indian languages and the packer may have reached for the wrong item if several items with names beginning with Dagad or Pathar were in adjacent bins. But, at this time, there is nothing to rate.If I do get the correct product, I will edit this review and my rating. If the seller insists that what was sent to me is indeed Dagad Phool, then I will send the item back and request a refund.
