Whisper Organics 100% Cotton Organic Quilted Mattress Pad Protector

Waking up in a pool of sweat after sleeping on cheap microfiber sheets and a cheap polyester and microfiber mattress pad is a terrible way to start the day. But that was my life, that is until the purchase of a new mattress sent me into a buying frenzy of cotton bedding. I started with this mattress pad and cotton sheets. I have a bamboo mattress protector under this mattress pad as it is not waterproof. It’s been a little over a week, and I have not awakened to any sweat. I feel so much more rested and just happier. I can’t believe what a difference the mattress pad makes. Seriously, it’s expensive but so worth it. It stays cool and doesn’t trap body heat. It’s constructed and sewn with precision and beauty. It’s very well stitched, it will stay together nicely wash after wash. Highly recommend and thinking of purchasing another, just to have on hand. It’s that nice.

I wanted a mattress cover that did not change the feel of my comfortable, cool-sleeping mattress. This meant finding something made of natural fibers that also does not have any plastic-y or polyurethane waterproof layers in it. My choices came down to this organic cotton cover or a washable wool cover from a different brand. I ultimately chose this one because the washable wool could only be line-dried, and I wanted something that was safe to put in the dryer. It’s been a month and I am so happy with my choice! I washed and dried this cover as soon as it arrived and put it on my bed. Perfect fit on my 15” queen mattress. The cotton fill has stayed even and not shifted at all. Even if my mattress was a few inches taller, this cover would still fit. The cover does not negatively impact the feel or sleeping temperature of my mattress. If anything, it adds to the comfort, though not by much because it has a nice, thin profile. I don’t have any kids and I don’t eat in bed, so I’m not worried about big spills. I think this cover protects well against things like sweat, which is the protection level I need. But this cover would not be a good match for someone who does have small children, or incontinent pets. For that I think you’d absolutely need something with a fully waterproof layer. For my needs, it’s perfect, and comparing the price to similar organic cotton covers, this one is priced very competitively.

Update: 8/10/2026 Originally gave it 4 stars but changed to 5. We've been sleeping on this pad for 4 years. When we first bought it and washed and dried it, it seemed to shrink, but then we noticed it settles and stretches and fits a king mattress perfectly. Since we started using this, neither one of us wakes up sweaty. You sleep dry and cool or warm, depending on the time of the year. We now upgraded to linen sheets and we have a cotton duvet cover with a down comforter. Our bed is luxurious. So, even though you can't see the pad it works great and makes a difference. We sleep more comfortably and dry. It's expensive compared to the cheapo polyester ones, but it's like comparing club soda to fine champagne. You will probably have this thing for decades and sleep much better for it. 2022 - I received our king mattress cover. When I can, I try to get quality. This was a bit of an expense, but I thought it would be worth it. We also try to have only cotton or natural fibers. Off the bat the mattress cover seems to be good quality. Worth $165? Not sure, but I think it's a matter of supply and demand. Most are made with polyester so if you make yours of 100% cotton, you're in the minority and can charge more. This was kind of a splurge. After all it goes under the fitted sheet. You don't even see it. It's about comfort, but still quite expensive. Okay, I know what I was getting in to. So, it's not unreasonable to expect a high quality product and service, right? I open the box and there it is in a plastic bag, which was obviously already opened and then taped closed with clear scotch tape. It was also taped over with the wide clear packing tape. It was a bit of a mess. I was disappointed to see this LACK of quality considering what I paid. Come on!? Whisper Organics, couldn't you at least repack it in a descent bag and not tape it up like some elementary school art project? After that negative first impression I didn't know what to expect to find inside the fancy bag. I'm happy to say that the actual product seemed good. I opened it and spread it out on our standard king mattress which measures 80' X 77'. On the the amazon page, the king mattress cover measurements are 82' x 78', so I thought that was good. Out of the bag it was exactly what they said. It was bigger than our mattress by a few inches, but no problem. I washed it following the directions exactly, in warm water and dry on low. I put it on the bed and it was a little small. But not terribly in my opinion, but yours might be different. I measured it post washing and drying and the new dimensions are 76.5' x 73'. So it shrinks in length about 5 inches and in width 5 inches too. Sounds pretty bad but it still looks good on the mattress and covers it pretty well. I appreciate that they make them extra large knowing that they will shrink, but they needed to add a few more inches to that. What I don't understand is, why don't they prewash all the fabrics and pre-shrink them to avoid these problems!? Come on, it's not rocket science. I noticed too that the top surface of the mattress cover is square, but most mattresses are not perfectly square, but have rounded corners and are wider in the middle of the sides than they are near the corners. So this exaggerates the shrinkage. What's most important is that it covers the mattress mostly very well and it definitely seems like good quality. I hope, like a good pair of jeans that it will relax with use and fit more comfortably over time. In spite of some of the issues I do recommend this pad but I would recommend washing in cold water and dry with absolutely no heat or hang dry, which could be tricky. It's large and you will need a very dry sunny maybe breezy day. I might update this review after we actually put it to the test. I guess if I haven't updated, that's good news.

My family is extremely sensitive to heat while sleeping. The smallest bit of plastic, vinyl, synthetics will cause tossing and turning all night. Our bedding must be 100% cotton from the mattress pad, to the sheets and down comforter duvet. Finding 100% cotton mattress pads is impossible at retailers and like a needle in a haystack. Sellers advertise their product as "100% all cotton" only to find the cover is cotton but the fill is synthetic. Or the sides or backing synthetic, or 95% cotton and 5% synthetic fill. Sheesh, why not just make it 100% cotton? Because cotton costs more. Yet nothing can duplicate the unrivaled sleep you get with 100% cotton mattress pads and sheets. They also last for many year's as no plastics to melt. Cotton naturally wicks away moisture, it breathes and you sleep cooler. No, that doesn't mean it's going to magically cool you off like an air conditioner or make you uncomfortably cold. It means it will keep you comfortable yet cozy - and less likely to sweat/overheat. I've ordered several of these in King and TwinXL. The pads arrived sealed and wrapped, the pad has a reusable dust cover. The high-quality pad is tied with a bow. I mean how can a mattress pad be so high-end? It's also Organic cotton and because it's unbleached it's a beautiful ivory color. No chemicals and dyes. I washed in my front loader, dried as directed then the true test. It fit my 15" king mattress perfectly edge-to-edge and corners on the entire top, and the elastic went underneath the mattress. The cotton is cushiony with a honeycomb-like pattern which creates raised areas for air to flow, and prevent the cotton batting from bunching. Everyone sleeps soundly. The quality is easily the best I've seen for pads twice as much like Lands End. Another great thing is a TwinXL will fit a Split California King mattress, which is impossible to find a 100% cotton mattress pad for. I hope the manufacturer continues with this quality product! If you have issues with it being too large/small for your mattress and need it to fit more snug. You can order sheet straps for each corner to prevent shifting.

I really hate to have to write a negative review for a product that is organic, fair trade and eco-friendly. First, the positives: very high quality materials and workmanship, packaged with care in a nice drawstring bag, material is pleasant to the touch, and it fit our 11" king-size mattress with a 2" latex topper almost perfectly. I said almost. As per the instructions, we washed it in cold water and dried it with care on the lowest heat setting. Halfway through the drying cycle we removed it from the dryer and hang-dried it the rest of the way to prevent shrinkage. It washed and dried beautifully. When we put it on the bed it was a bit of a stretch, but we were able to get it to line up almost to the edges of our mattress. However it was quite taut even though our mattress with the topper is only 13" total. This cover is advertised as fitting a 17" bed, so the tight fit was not due to our mattress being too thick. The main reason for 3 stars is that it actually made our bed feel significantly FIRMER, which was the opposite of what we wanted. It was difficult to choose a rating because quality alone put it at 5 stars, but the comfort issue negated the positives. We recently purchased an organic latex topper (to replace memory foam) and upgraded all of our bedding to organic. The latex topper felt a tiny bit too firm and our traditional mattress protector made for an uncomfortable, plastic-y layer between our fitted sheet and the topper. But it was thin and did not change the overall feel of the latex. We knew that the Whisper Organics was not thick, nor would it add loft to our bed, but we thought the cotton batting inside would add just enough padding over the latex to soften it a little. Plus we wanted something organic, so we splurged on this mattress cover. Unfortunately the Whisper Organics cover, once it was stretched across our king mattress, had no "give" to it, even after washing, and the tightly woven batting added a firm layer over top of our latex. It made our bed significantly more uncomfortable and caused pressure point pain. Halfway through the first night sleeping on it, we had to remove it. After doing so the bed was instantly more comfortable and soothing on pressure points. We were really bummed because otherwise this is a lovely mattress cover. What bums us out even more is that we've been trying to be mindful that our purchases are more eco-friendly and high-quality, albeit more expensive, rather than buying cheaply-made products that will one day end up in a landfill. It has become more difficult to find high-quality products in a world where industry produces mostly disposable junk that continuously needs to be replaced. It's the modern business model. This mattress cover is one of the rare high-quality items that will last. It pains us to return this because they will not be able to resell a mattress cover that has been washed and used, even if only once. It will probably end up in a landfill. It has caused us to consider keeping it for perhaps a future guest bedroom, but this was too expensive to just hold onto for "some day". And why would we put our guests in uncomfortable bedding? We are torn about what to do as our return window shrinks. We'll probably end up returning it with regret. EDIT: My original review was 3 stars. Adding a star for excellent customer service. This is exactly what I needed. I love the: Color, padding, fabric, texture, overall quality. Definitely a great buy.

First Impressions, the price seemed steep, but finally got what I paid for. One thing I like is the smaller quilted squares versus larger quilted squares is it holds the material inside better especially during washing. First unboxing of the mattress cover I thought the cover was going to be more of a white instead it is a beige color, Ivory the seller advertises. It went straight to the washing machine and if it survived a good washing from my speed queen, then it will survive many more washings. When you received this definitely wash it first. I washed mine twice and dried in the drier and it came out fine. Take my word, you need to wash it first. Shrinkage was minimal and It fit the Queen mattress perfectly, 11" memory Foam Mattress, it was still cotton soft. This reminded me of some of my grandmas quilts that seem to last forever because the way it was made, only time will tell. Some people want waterproof this and that, but I did not purchase this for its waterproof properties, if any, but for the comfortable feel. While it may not be at the top for first line defense against liquids it is good enough for me. If you have physical problems and pet problems, you probably need to look elsewhere. It is hard satisfy the need for protection and comfort ability in an all in one mattress cover, people should have a thin synthetic mattress cover underneath the main mattress cover, yeah it sounds a bit much but looking at the material used in some of these all in one covers, it seems they won't last over normal washing intervals or however long you own them. You will then have to buy another. This cover I believe will last for a good while, its comfortable, no noise, and stands up to washing at least straight out the box. Finally, yeah..we like it.

This mattress pad is worth the price - all cotton, including the batting. Thick and soft. It arrived in a covid-reasonable time and was beautifully packaged. It also smelled clean, no chemical smell, and has a tag Made In India, which I prefer over Chinese made products. I put it on the bed immediately to check the size. The quilted part was slightly larger than our standard king sized bed, about 2-3" each direction. I debated about washing it in warm or cold, and opted for warm. Then dried it on low. The quilted portion did shrink - and now fits the bed perfectly. In the future I will wash on warm and dry on very low, to retain the size. A word about the fitted edging part that goes around the mattress (is there a term for that?) - it is very generous and would fit a mattress much taller than our 10" mattress. Consequently it fits a little loose on our bed. However I tucked it firmly under the mattress, and the pad stays in place very well. Overall I am very, very pleased with this mattress pad, and I am very picky when it comes to bedding. Now a suggestion to the bedding industry: please find a way to mark the fitted products "END" or "SIDE" so we don't have to get out the Sharpie to mark our bedding so we can make the bed easier!

This is a very high quality product. It's very soft and well made. Washes well. It's not meant to be waterproof, so it's not like those covers that are crinkly and make you hot and sweaty. I'm always hot at night and this is the coolest bed product I've slept on. The cotton breathes yet still protects the matress. We got a brand new very soft (too soft) foam mattress. The cover makes it not quite as squishy so it's easier to move around in the bed with the cover on it. The only issue I have is that the cover gets bunched up and has to be washed or retucked to get rid of the bumfles (Scottish word - but apt for this usage). I think this is because of the foam mattress not having well defined edges. I talked to product support and they were very helpful and suggested I wash it since it is designed to shrink. It did shrink and washed well and it was better after being shrunk. I think this cover would be better on a regular mattress. I'm pleased with it overall and I'm glad I bought it. It was more expensive than some alternatives, but it is a superior quality product and worth the price.
