Question 1

How does this lense work taking macro photos. I would like to take close up pictures of coins, will this work?

Accepted Answer

Hello Michael! I have one and it works very good. You'll be able to take coins with no issues. The glass has been working fine with me for more that 2 years. However, have a look to the extension tubes perhaps is easier and cheaper to you to add an extension to your 50mm and take closer pictures to your coins. The other option is the Tamron 90mm, that is real 1:1 (I own it and it is much better than this 70-300, but more expensive) Finally, you could choose the "Magnification glass", that is good and cheap (Not as good as a macro, but very good in general) I hope this helps to you!

Question 2

will this lens work on my d3200?

Accepted Answer

Yes this lens is excellent for the Nikon body D3200 I have one myself and getting great shots with this past christmas and I photographed someones Cat then put the pictures on iMovie in apple software the photos were fantastic. I enjoy this lens.

Question 3

Can I use this lens for portrait photography?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can. Technically you can take a portrait with any lens. Normally you want a focal length greater than 50mm so that you don't get distortion. This lens is not sharp and you can't crop the picture so make sure that you frame the person as you want. The bokeh is not really good, but this isn't a quality lens to begin with. I recommended that people either buy the Canon 55-250 or save up for an L quality (if you are a Canon shooter). I found that the quality of pics with this lens to be useless - maybe a 5% keeper rate. Good luck with whatever your decide.

Question 4

Hey All!! can anyone tell me what size UV Polarizer/ lens cap the Tamron 70-300mm DI- 5.6 ?? lens for nikon uses, thanks ,,J .R. Massachusetts

This lens uses a 62 mm diameter filter and requires a "circular polarizer" which is different from the ones used for film cameras.
