This mini soft box is made of the same material as the other Lumiquest light modifiers and like them the glue used on the Velcro patches is gooey and will need to be replaced. However, the kit is very compact and comes in a travel case. The UltraStaps are great for attaching to small flash units. I like them better than having to stick Velcro on my flashes. The kit includes a useful set of colored gels.

The secret (if you can call it that) for getting good results out of the Softbox III is to really get it in tight with your subject. I mean as close as you possibly can without getting it in the picture. If you do that, the light takes on a nice quality. Plus the limited area gives you a cool, aggressive falloff that works well for dramatic portraits. You can dial out the ambient light with your camera exposure, then take advantage of the Softbox III's falloff to get a George Hurrell, vintage Hollywood look that is awesome.Another tip, although it's related, is the Softbox III works best on subjects of limited size (i.e. head & shoulder portraits of single individuals, etc.). Anything big and you have to pull it away from the subject. It's a small device, so the further it is from the subject, the more its light will revert to looking like a bare speedlight.I've had great success with it as a fill light when shooting outdoors, and it also makes a really nice hair/rim light. Best of all, it collapses down into a flat sheet that can share the compartment with your laptop in your bag/backpack.I have mixed feeling about the FXtra gel holder. It works, but it's a pain getting gels into the holder due to the tight fit. I'm not sure that scotch tape isn't less hassle. But at least the gels are the right ones for a starter set and they're cut to size for speedlights.
