I wish I could give this more stars...
I wish I could give this more stars. Truly. This is one of those rare instances when not only the product exceeded my expectations, but the customer service as well. This is the second Roolen humidifier I have purchased. For the product review:- Quiet. It is very, very quiet. The misting is bare discernible audibly.- Functions well. Living in southern California subjects us to the Santa Ana winds which makes the air super, super dry. Drier than Las Vegas at times. In a room approximately 18' x 25' where the humidity (without the humidifier running) may hover around 30 - 40%, this humidifier (while running) maintains a humidity level right around 50%. Even while the oven is on.- Great for bakers. The humidity is maintained while proofing or rising.- Very easy to clean. A monthly cleaning of distilled water and vinegar in the water tank, wiping the exterior with a soft cloth, wiping down the base interior before each use keeps it in tip top shape.- Stable and aesthetically pleasing. I have never had it tip over or leak. The footprint is small enough to hide the unit behind some very happy plants. The light is small enough to see but not overwhelming.- Happy plants, happy skin. Keeps everything moist.- Easy read indicator light shows which level the unit is running at or if it is out of water. For the customer service review:- I contacted Roolen customer service directly when my first humidifier started making noise. As mentioned before, up until this point, the unit was almost completely silent while running. They responded to my email immediately in a very friendly and apologetic manner. Although the unit was 3 years old, Roolen sent a replacement base and only charged me shipping cost ($13). I received the unit very quickly (within the next few days) after I paid the shipping cost. Really terrific customer service! They definitely stand behind their product. In response to those who had issues with the Roolen humidifier:- When picking the unit up or setting it down, it must be carried in a level manner. There is enough space on the bottom rear to slip fingers underneath to grab a steady hold (this might be difficult for someone with hand issues). But it must be kept level. I have never had any spillage or leakage by doing the aforementioned.- To avoid scale build up in the base, it really is better to use filtered or RO water. I would speculate the unit uses a half gallon of water per filling which typically lasts a day (depending on the run settings).- Additionally, to avoid scale build up in the base, wipe down all the interior parts in the base with a clean, dry, soft cloth after each use. I found this really helpful.- There has never been any puddling or leakage on my units while running. The top must be affixed to the base correctly or I suppose it might leak.- One of my units is up high on a cabinet. To facilitate moving the unit around and refilling it, it sits on a tray. I just pick up the tray by the handles with the unit on it, and move it where it needs to go.Hope this is helpful!

Love this thing!
I have only had it in my 15X15 home office a few days, and I live in Denver where it is very very dry in winter...but my first impressions have been:1) Works well, puts out a lot of visibly humid air yet does not create a "rain forest" in my office as others have mentioned in other reviews. Maybe their environment is already relatively humid to start with or the latest model has addressed this issue. Bottom line for me is that I can feel the difference in my breathing, I simply don't feel "dry" air anymore in my airways.2) Looks great - and because it is in my office, I wanted a unit that does not provide the impression that I am under the weather, which people seem to conclude when they see a humidifier. This was important to me.3) It operates essentially silently (I can only detect a slight humming sound when I put my ear right up next to it).3) Does not "leak" as a few others have mentioned...however a little common sense will keep you, your furniture and floors dry; a) It is quite obvious when you get the device that the top holds the reservoir of water that feeds the bottom of the unit which holds a small open "pool" of water waiting to be humidified. b) If you simply carry the top of the unit only to your sink for refilling, there is no risk of anything getting wet. c) If you feel compelled to take the entire unit, do yourself a favor and wait until the unit indicates that it is empty (red light) d) You might even consider taking the top of the unit off before carrying it to relocate (prior to it indicating "empty" - red light). e) Think of it in this common sense way...would you carry a glass of water sideways or upside down and expect it not to leak? Same thing goes for the base of this unit when it has not been indicated as "empty" (red light)4) I will update this review after having the unit in operation for a few more months.

Prefer warm mist
I have used many humidifiers over the years, including the cool mist variety many years ago. It was loud and required filters. This seemed like an improvement on the old technology and the positive reviews incented me to try again as I wanted to humidify without raising the temperature in my bedroom as the warm mist humidifiers do. This product didn't meet expectations. It didn't humidify anything that I could tell. It is mostly silent, but the water just spews volcano-fashion from the top and falls immediately straight back down. Everything surrounding the unit is then wet, drippy, and, in the case of any wood surface, ruined. I'll stick with the warm mist humidifiers which actually do humidify the room. The cleaning of the warm mist units is no worse than cleaning the white dust which gets everywhere with the cool mist variety. I'd love another Slant Fin humidifer, but they are sadly no longer made. Great idea and great esthetic design, but the cool mist humidifiers just don't work and the newer technology is no exception.

Well designed, minimal humidifier
The Roolen is a great small humidifier that is sold at a decent price. The packaging is great and include very well laid out simple instructions. As soon as I got it i just filled it with water, plugged it in and away it went. As far as the settings go the auto function supposedly detects the humidity in the room and automatically starts. I have yet to see that function really work. When it is despensing mist it works very well and is super quiet. The most shoots up directly about a foot or so and is pretty good about not getting stuff too damp around the area. The tank for water itself holds quite a lot for the size. Design wise it is a plastic body but seems quite sturdy, very slick and minimal with the one indicator light on the front and a botton to switch between modes on the back. All the generic humidiers tend to be super ugly so this is what really drew me to the Roolen. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Great design and decent operation but auto setting doesn't work well.
Really pretty and does a decent job and is very quiet. Just remember that you're probably paying for the look as much as the functionality. Generates a decent cloud of mist but does take a long time with a medium-large room and needs to be filled up every day. The auto-setting doesn't work very well. Despite the documentation the auto-setting seems to turn off when the humidity is still too low. Overall I like it cause it does do the job and has a really nice design.

5/5 Amazing Humidifier
Love it's adherence to simplicity. One button does it all but what really distinguishes the piece is that it has internal sensors to guage humidity levels. This makes for a unit that you don't have to constantly refill. Perhaps one refill every 1.5 days is what we're up to but it depends on ambient humidity also of course. This thing is quiet too. Can barely hear it.Lastly, it's actually a nice design and can easily go anywhere for that reason.

Aesthetic, quiet, simple - but ineffective in a large room
The Roolen Breath is unquestionably the most aesthetically pleasing humidifier on the market. It is amazingly quiet, and simple to use. It runs a long time without requiring refills. However, that very fact is the reason I returned it. It simply does not convert enough liquid water into vapour to effectively humidify a large room. I suspect it is ideal for small rooms, but Roolen claims it is adequate for large rooms, and this simply isn't the case. I purchased a hygrometer to measure the humidity in my room. Even when the Roolen was operating on the high setting, it only raised the room's humidity by 2-3% in 12 hours! It simply didn't perform. So I reluctantly returned it and purchased another brand. My new humidifer raises my room's humidity by over 20% in 12 hours. This of course results in more frequent refills, but the whole point in purchasing a humidifier is to humidify you living space, so that inconvenience is unavoidable.

So far so good. Is it perfect
So far so good. Is it perfect? No. But works well.Pros: Beautiful, Simple, Easy to fill and cleanCons: Mist doesn't go very far. Can't control direction of mist. High mode is pretty useless. Stick to Low and Auto. But hey it's pretty right?
