The Black/Latte color is cracking on the strap of the shoe. Is this a common occurrence?

It can be, unfortunately. It only occurs on the ones with the shiny, "luxe" finish. The regular ones with the solid colors do NOT have the same issue.

what is the toe post made out of?

The same material as the rest of the sandal. It's all made of the same thing. A type of rubber. I don't know exactly what kind. I normally hate the Toe separator but this what's comfortable for me.
