Success!!
I wanted to get into making yogurt and saw a bunch of how-to's using an instant pot, but most use store bought as the starter. I figured if I go through the trouble of making yogurt, I want the good stuff and I want it to last. It may have been a little pricier, but it will last indefinitely as long as I keep them alive where I hear store-bought tends to die off. My first try was with Skyr and I used 1.5 cups of milk. I followed the instructions on their website and it took the "typical" 8 hours and came out nice and thick! Plan to use some to make a full batch later this week! Off to a good start!! PS seller has great communication and was responsive to questions.

Look elsewhere
Ordered 2 cultures. The instructions were very unclear about the starting batches. But then when I was confused and experiencing problems (because of their unclear instructions) I emailed for help through their website and heard absolutely nothing. This was months ago. Now I have two failed cultures.

Small Well Packaged Cultures
Was concerned that the amount of culture shipped was too small. I chose the Matsoni and sourdough cultures. It's known that dehydrating cultures usually results in about a 50% loss of active culture - thus my concern. Happily, the Matsoni has exceeded my expectations. It was slow to start, and only whole milk was used, but after a few weeks and transitioning to 50% whole milk/50% 2% milk the culture is VERY STRONG. So pleased that I can culture great tasting yogurt on my countertop without dealing with the hassle of heat treatment!

I ordered both Matsoni and Skyr
I have Crohnโs disease and fermented foods and beverages helps my condition far better than the pharmaceuticals that used to cost in excess of $40 a day. I bought Matsoni because it ferments at 72-78 degrees (no yoghurt maker required Unfortunately my Matsoni yoghurt starter arrived DOA. I never got yoghurt. All I got was spoiled milk.

Give it a chance to wake up
So happy I found an option for making yogurt that doesn't start with buying more than I end up making. The first batch wasn't perfect as the yeasts were still waking up but A+ after that. Definitely will be coming back for more types or if I ever accidentally kill what I've got right now.
