Mounted it vertically on wall. Pretty Quiet. Recommend.
Have a large upstairs master bedroom which due to its north-west exposure becomes unbearably hot from afternoon and into the early evening. Our summertime electric bills are crazy expensive primarily because of the AC trying to keep this room comfortable. Due to the room's vaulted cielings, I could not install this fan horizontally so I mounted it vertically as far up as possible on the one wall that borders the attic. Worked like a charm and we are now easily evacuating the hot air from the room into the attic and creating circulation with cooler air from other areas of the home. The noise of the fan is surprisingly quiet. I chose to re-orient the blower and the fan outlet doors from original 'horizontal' configuration to vertical so that the outlet airflow would not blow against the adjacent insulation in the attic. The manual shows these two possible configurations but does not elaborate on how to accomplish it. Actually, not hard at all to reconfigure... remove 3 nuts mounting the blower then rotate and flip, and then relocating the outlet doors on the exterior were obvious with no explanation required. Currently using a standard wall light switch to turn on/off while searching for the best 'cooling only', a.k.a. close on temp rise, a.k.a 'fan ON', line-voltage thermostat... the line voltage requirement is the wrench thrown into the plans since all offerings available only include quite rudimentary models with seemingly no digital or programmable options (anything beyond simple mechanical is for 'heat only)... finding a robust thermostat solution seems to be the most challenging part of this project.

Highly Recommended!
I wouldn't normally review an exhaust fan, but I had to on this one. I am really surprised how quiet it is for it's size. I was replacing a Panasonic 150cfm whisper fan in my kitchen and was concerned with possible noise as this is rated for 434cfm. No worries here! Just slightly more sound, but almost indistinguishable. I also purchased the broan fan control to lower the speed and sound, but I ended up not using it. There is more work needed to install than a regular exhaust, but worth it. I also added a grease filter as I'm using it as a secondary exhaust to remove excess smoke when cooking. Time will tell, but for now I highly recommended it if a higher cfm exhaust fan is needed.

Extremely quiet. Great air ventilation. Installed in two car garage to keep heat managed during hot summers.

Great product so far
Works great so far. We've only had it in for a couple of weeks. I didn't want a giant hood over my open concept kitchen. It's tucked away nicely above the island. I can feel the air flow when I turn it on. It's very quiet for the size. I use a timmer switch for it and that works great! Easy to install. I think it could also be great in a large bathroom to suck out the shower steam.

Keeps the garage dry
My two car garage was holding moisture from the cars which was beading up on the ceiling and walls during the winter months. I had my electrician install this fan and hooked it to a switch with a built in humidistat that I purchased separately on Amazon. You also have to purchase the ductwork separately. When the humidity reaches a preset level, the humidistat turns the fan on automatically and runs until the humidity level drops and then it turns itself off. The fan is quiet and did a good job keeping my garage dry all winter!

Hums and rattles at low speed
I bought a Broan Model 80L Variable Speed Control that was specifically recommended for this ventilator fan. I hear only expected air movement noise when the switch is near the high speed end of the range. As the speed is lowered, the fan begins to rumble and hum. Installation was made challenging by the fact that the fan requires larger than typical (for residential settings) duct work.

Good Big fan
This is a very good fan. There are some things you have to understand about it. It is big. The joist have to be 24" on center when turned vertical. It requires a square to round transition that I had to get specially made by a duct making company because of its large size ( 4.5" X 18.5" X 6" to a round 10" ) It requires a 10" duct for venting. I was happy with the amount of air it moves and the motor is easily removed when that will be necessary.
