Perfect photographer's buddy
The search for a gear bodyguard is over. I've started doing more location photography and wanted to upgrade my bags/cases for three main reasons:1) Better protection in transit2) Easier management and accessibility of gear3) Consolidation of gear to reduce number of bags/cases to haul aroundThis case solves all three needs quite nicely. It's just deep enough to store body & lens together, and some items can be nested or stacked to optimize space (for example, one of my larger flashes is stored horizontally with spare batteries nested in the bottom foam layer). I was worried about fitting everything in this case, but I actually have enough room left over for another lens. Here's a generic list of everything I was able to comfortably fit into the Pelican 1550:-dSLR + attached wide angle zoom lens-additional midrange zoom lens-5 flash units-6 flash transceivers-pano head-4 spare AA batteries-portable field recorder-misc (wb card, spare sd cards, flash filters, trigger cable, flash feet)Hints for successful packing:1. Plan ahead! Draw up a diagram, cut out shaped templates, whatever you need to do to get the foam plucked out right the first time. It will save the headache of Super-77 repairs or the old "painting yourself into a corner" syndrome of haphazard packing.2. Use a smallish bread knife to easily cut through the perforated foam. Yes, it's called "pick-n-pluck", but the foam squares are still connected pretty securely. I finely serrated knife will make quick work of it. Pick a knife with symmetrical serrations (like this /\) as opposed to right-angle serrations (like this /|).3. Remember that your gear can poke out of the top a bit. You have about 1 1/2" of space above the top foam layer that is taken up by the lid foam, so utilize that space to reduce gear movement and take advantage of that extra space.4. Pimp it out! Order some vinyl lettering and put your company name on the outside of the box. Or just get a biohazard sticker for the front and add a pair of handcuffs to the handle.

2nd Best Not Good Enough? Use a Pelican Case
Huge box, I use it for my DVX100B and all related film equipment. I could drop this thing from an overpass or use it for hand to hand combat and it would protect the cargo perfectly. Solid handle design will never break.Pick and pluck foam is FANTASTIC! It's the next best thing to having an expensive custom cut. Be sure to use silk fabric between the foam and your expensive equipment, as the foam has tendency to flake off in very small pieces. Note: this is not a design flaw but the nature and density of the foam itself. Water resistant a plus, solid rubber seal compressed with solid case latches, however, the wife looked at me funny when I went to give the case a bath... could I blame her?Pelicans seem to be worth the extra 30 bucks and (hey look) made in the USA so the polymers won't degrade, weaken and crack after two years. Fine job - I will be getting more for my permanent storage items I no longer wish to keep in wobbly Tupperware muy Grande.

These are absolutely the best cases around
These are absolutely the best cases around. They will last forever and keep their contents safe as well. It seems that the inside dimensions are a little larger than described as the case tapers slightly at the bottom. I like everything about this case itself, but I with they would package it with standard cut out foam. I do not like the pluck 'n pull foam. Not only is it not precise, it does not last very long as the serrations between cubes slowly break it apart, and it is very difficult to "cut" out partial depths. With standard foam, you cut your shape all the way through, then cut the shape to the desired depth and replace the other part. You can buy more foam from Pelican and other online sources, so if you are like me, it may be cheaper to buy the empty case and buy the foam separately. You can't go wrong with Pelican cases though. Top notch for anything you really need protected.

Convenient, Cuztomizable and Nearly Indestrucable
These cases are everything you need if you are looking for a heavy duty carrying case. I've used different Pelican Cases for years and have no real complaints. This unit comes with the 'Pick N Pluck' foam which makes it very easy to custom fit just about any size and shape item. Although it works great to protect most items, keep in mind that it will not work very well for extremely heavy items which will have a tendency to compress the foam and move around. For those, considered purchasing a harder foam from various vendors that offer pre-cut solutions.Pelican warranty has been great and I've used them a couple of times to replace parts that got damaged during shipping. It is available in various colors and with the following optional accessories: Pelican 1555 Padded Divider set for the 1550 Case, Single Layer Pelican 1550PF Special Application Panel Frame Kit 1550-300-110

This is a badass case! I am a commercial pilot and getting through the airport with it is easy because TSA has quick access to locks that I have on my pelican case. This case is very durable. You can literally throw these things around, treat them like crap and they will still hold up. I also really like that these cases are able to regulate itself in changing atmospheric pressure changes. The case has a valve on the front that allows the case to vent air and equalize the pressure inside. This is especially important if you are carrying instruments that are sensitive to pressure change. Well worth the money. They are pricey but they will last you forever, and if I remember correctly pelican does have a lifetime guarantee but not 100% sure without researching again.

A Rugged Waterproof Hard Case
I debated between 1520 and this 1550 before buying & was looking for a quality case for a Vortex Spotting Scope & Tripod ,After receiving this case I was very pleased with the almost perfect fit & still had plenty of room for a camera adapter & remoteNot sure that choosing a hi visibility color for a spotting scope was a very smart decision but was planning to camo it anywayBut the perfect size & quality of this case makes up for it

Works great with the pick and pluck insets
Pelican is the premier case for photo stuff. Have one already and the wife has one also. Needed another for my new digital stuff and older FX lenses. Works great with the pick and pluck insets. My camera bag is lighter now that I no longer have to cart around a ton of glass. Well worth the bucks. JCL
