I Highly Recommended This Vacuum For Medium to Short Rugs/Floor, and Few Tall Rugs
Amazing vacuum, with accessories that transform it into a smaller vacuum, lightweight and easily movable for those that might be elderly or not desiring to lift much. Also very easy to clean. I recommended this vacuum to my Mom and Dad who are not really elderly yet, but they both Love it, and my Mom who doesn't want to lift much finds it lightweight. I recommended this to my Mom and Dad after personally buying it, because it was the best deal around, and the vacuum is working great, most importantly it filters the air as it vacuums so it doesn't kick up much dust or pollute the air much, and the setting for different levels of carpet are great too, it picks up pretty much everything you'd expect it too, and it cleans just as much as I need it too. Although my Mom and Dad do not have dogs or cats, and neither do I, so I do not have the same needs as someone with a dog or cat, I can say however the previous renters of my apartment had a dog or a cat and this vacuum did pick up alot of that from a tall rug, which others have left behind. All vacuums though would have some trouble picking up pet hair depending on the thickness of the carpet, if it's very thick, hairs will more easily get embedded in the rug, and it will be very difficult for any vacuum to remove, you'd need a shorter rug. That being said, I still think this hoover does the best any vacuum can do at removing pet hair from tall rugs, as I've seen it remove alot, but honestly I wouldn't recommend this to someone who has a whole house filled with a tall rugs and pets because the vacuum seems like the brushes would eventually break down for rugs that are too tall. So to revise the review for those with pets/tall rugs everywhere, I would 100 percent recommend this item for all users that have mostly medium to short rugs/floor, and a small amount of tall rugs, then from the construction quality in those conditions, I think the vacuum would work great, and last a very long time(granted it is well taken care of).

Unbelievable Quality For the Price and Weight
I have had the same vacuum for the past five years and have always hated it. It's main problem was that it did actually do a pretty good job when it was functioning correctly, but in order for it to not lose suction I had to constantly be taking it apart and cleaning all of the little nooks and crannies. Also, it was super heavy and a pain to drag up and down my stairs. I never could bring myself to get rid of it because it did actually work and it was fairly expensive. FINALLY about a month ago it started smoking during a vacuuming session and I saw a few sparks...into the garbage it went! I started to research vacuums and I came across this one. The price was super reasonable and the reviews were great. I figured that I would try it and if it didn't get the job done Amazon has a good return policy and I would just send it back. Oh my goodness is this vacuum amazing!! I never thought I would rave about a vacuum cleaner but I can't hush up about this one. It is super compact and very very light yet it has more suction than any vacuum I have ever used. I can do my stairs effortlessly and the attachment gets into corners with ease. I like that when you empty the dirt container you don't have to touch anything dirty. You just push a button on the bottom of the canister and the bottom drops out and empties all of the dirt and then you just snap it back shut. The only possible drawbacks I can see is that the canister doesn't hold a ton of dirt. I empty it after each room I vacuum so it doesn't overload it. Really I don't see this as a drawback though, because it literally takes 10 seconds. You just pull the canister off the vacuum, push the button over your garbage can, snap the bottom back up, and place the canister back on your vacuum. Also, the motor on the vacuum certainly isn't quiet. I have a 20 lb 6 month old who it doesn't bother though so who cares...This vacuum is so light I can vacuum with my son on my hip in one arm and push the vacuum around with my other hand without a problem. Also, I love that this doesn't take up a ton of room to store it. This vacuum is a great deal for an excellent vacuum. Save your money and your back from lugging a heavy machine up and downstairs and buy this!

Functional Vacuum
The good: It does its job fairly well. My mother used it on carpet with a loose strand, and it managed to pull up a whole row before she noticed. The floor height adjustment works fairly well, though I would resist the impulse to lower it if you feel like there isn't enough suction (as she did) and instead, go over the area twice. It's fairly easy to clean out, with replaceable filters available to buy. The handle pops out easily, and the attachments are easy to reconfigure. It's light enough to carry up the stairs casually in one hand, and inexpensive enough to not feel to sad about it when it eventually dies. The not so good: There's no lever to release it so that the body can angle back. You have to firmly press on the front of the vacuum, then yank the handle back and down. It's an extremely clunky maneuver that you have to perform in reverse to return it to the upright position. The hose looks short because it stretches, but the stretchiness is rather taut, and you're pulling at it to get it to extend to where you want it. This vacuum cleaner also feels like it's made of 100% plastic, even though it's probably not. I just get the feeling that if I emulated an overexcited rock star and smashed it to bits, there would be plastic everywhere. Finally, the dust bin is indeed tiny - I'd say it lasts for about a single room. And I'm talking about a kid's bedroom, not a living room. Overall, I'd say this was a decent purchase, especially for the price. In the future, when the world of vacuum cleaners is revolutionized once again, I would want to replace it, but it will do for now, and I think it stands decently against my other options.

This is a budget vacuum. It works great on pet hair, but you will empty it often.
Bought this because we moved across the country two weeks ago and our vacuum was one of the things that got left behind when we realized we were running out of space in our trailer. "We won't need a vacuum right away!" I said. "It'll be fine." It was not fine. We did need a vacuum right away. Since we just spent all that money moving 2000 miles I wanted a vacuum that was cheap but overall would meet our needs in our 1 bedroom with 2 hairy humans and 4 furry friends. I wasn't sure if I was making the right choice because we do have a black lab, and I don't know if you know anything about black labs but they shed -- a lot! Some of the other reviewers mentioned that this vacuum is not great if you are fighting the battle against pet hair. In my opinion, they are wrong. Realistically, it's probably not the best vacuum money could buy but it's likely the best vacuum for the price. Some cons: -It's not self-propelled and seems to be a little hard to push on the medium shag I have in my apartment; -the dust canister will fill up quickly; I empty mine every time I use it; -the hose and wand are not very long but will get the job done in smaller spaces. And pros: -it picks up dirt and hair great; -the cord is super long -- I can vacuum about half my apartment from one outlet; -easy to clean and empty -- basically everything happens with the push of a button; -easy on and off with foot pedal; -lightweight; -scares cats; -works great on carpet and hard floors.

Not as good as I had thought.
UPDATE We have had this vacuum just over a month now and I am starting to realize some of its limitations. It won't pick up cheerios and doesn't work well on hard floors. It's fantastic on carpet. Our dog lays on our front mat and covers it in hair. One pass through with the vacuum and you can see how easily it picks up. On hard floors it just kind of pushes things around. So with four young kids and a dog i probably wouldn't buy this again. --------------------------------------------- We bought a Dyson vacuum 6 years ago...before we had kids. It has been amazing and we love it. Fast forward to present day and we now have 4 kids. Our Dyson starts to go on us as well as our Bissell turbo booster (fantastic as well) that we use around the table. It's hard to justify spending a fortune on a new vacuum when we have so many shoes to buy for the kids. 😳 I saw this vacuum on the daily deals page. Thought we'd take a chance. It's been an awesome vacuum! The canister is a bit small so it needs to be emptied often. This doesn't bother me. It's so easy to empty and because it's smaller it can easily be held in the garbage can to empty. My Dyson canister was so big I had to empty it outside in a garbage bag and it was a pain! This vacuum definitely doesn't maneuver as well as our Dyson but our five year old twins can still use it. It's nice and compact so I leave it tucked in the corner so we can grab it easily each day. It does feel a bit cheap but for less then $40 can't really expect more. You have to manually wind the cord which would normally be a pain but with so many little ones it takes away the temptation of playing with the cord. Haha. The suction is great. I couldn't believe what it pulled up out of the carpet and I vacuum nearly every day. I make weighted blankets that use these tiny little plastic pellets inside. Not going to lie but on more then one occasion they have been all over the floor. My husband was worried the vacuum would just shoot the pellets around. Nope, not the case at all. Sucked them all right up. Overall we are super happy with this vacuum. There are a few minor things I can live with especially for the price.

I had lived in a single level home and have a really nice, expensive pet vacuum that worked very well
I recently moved into a two story home. Up until then, I had lived in a single level home and have a really nice, expensive pet vacuum that worked very well. However, it is heavy and big. Now that we are living in a home with stairs, lugging the big vacuum up and down the stairs was incredibly tedious and annoying. I bought this vacuum on sale for $38.99 and am incredibly pleased with the great deal that I got. My lower level is all hard floors, aside from two large area rugs. This vacuum is great because it is small enough to fit in the coat closet without taking up much space, but versatile and powerful enough to handle the dog hair and to go from hardwood floors to long shag rugs. I love how light it is, moving it around is a breeze. The size of it is small, which means the path that it cleans up is narrow, but I feel like it works great for my purposes and would definitely recommend this vacuum. I would have paid full price for this and would still think it was a good deal... I kinda like this one better than my big expensive one! The only thing that I would change is the cord situation. On one hand, I wish the cord was a little bit longer to make going from room to room a little easier but on the other, the cord storage is not really ideal. They have two tabs to wrap the cord around on the back, but they are too narrow to hold the whole cord and it keeps falling off when stored. I have found that looping the cord through the handle for storage works better than trying to mess with the little hooks on the back, other than that, this vacuum rocks!

Doesn't Work Well on Worn Carpet
UPDATE: Lasted a year and a half and was never that great. ALWAYS wait before posting a review because everything will usually work fine when you first get it. It has cracked in multiple places, blows debris everywhere, and it keeps indicating there is a blockage even after I've cleaned and checked everything. Miss the Shark I had before this. You get what you pay for. I read great reviews about this and was particularly in the market for an upright with a dial function that adjusts the height of the roller brush for carpets. I bought a lightweight Eureka but returned it because it was too much like a child's toy. Now I'm saddled with this Hoover because it was free and I don't have the time or fortitude to return it. Noise Level: Loud. I know you're only standing 4 feet away but I said it's very LOUD! Suction: If you have worn down carpets there really is none. I have to go over and over the same spot to pick up a simple fleck of something. So yes, it sucks. Canister Capacity: It can take in about 1 cup of debris before you'll need to empty it. No joke. And they've plastered stickers all over the sides of the canister which make it difficult to tell if you've hit that 1 cup mark before it breaks down. Cleaning: It's easy to take apart but the main part of the canister cannot be cleaned. Oh, your hearing has come back? I'll stop shouting now. Tools: They don't do much but you'll appreciate Hoover's thoughtfulness. Cord Length: decent enough. Finally, it runs hot. I'm not fond of appliances over-heating. I've always relied on sturdy uprights from Walmart in the $40 price range but then I had a slightly higher priced (before they were popular) Shark and that still works crazy good even though the cheap plastic broke it down into just the function of a hand vac. I'd recommend a Shark. Please don't get sold on photos of people's Hoover canisters filled with dust. Any new vacuum will do that. Vacuums do lose suction so anything new will thrill and impress you as you toss your old one.

Well worth the money
First the bad news. Harry Houdini himself could not fit the elec. cord onto the cord caddy. Everything basically comes preassembled except the cord, which comes loose at the bottom of the plastic bag. Because they couldn't get it on the caddy. On the positive side, you can loop the cord then stuff the loops into an opening at the top of the wand. So there I go! As far as setup goes, I read the manual and tried to do what it was telling me to do, and lo and behold, everything happened just the way the manual said it would. Very easy and to the point instructions. I don't know about you but it usually doesn't go that way for me. I bought an assembly required plastic dvd stand recently and the instuctions were like reading braille! I had to figure out how to do it on my own! And it took some figgerin'! This experience was totally different. Not only were the instructions easy but, truth to tell, I could have figured out how to use this machine without them. Very basic modular design with very straightforward use modes. Once assembled, I tried it out on my carpeted kitchen floor, which hadn't been done since the old Hoover died 10 days ago. Filled the dirt cup halfway. And the carpet is Clean! Who could ask for more? I'm in heaven. One more small negative. I installed the wand onto the "8 foot expandable hose" to do the corners and the hose only seemed to want to expand to 3 or 4 feet. Perhaps with use it will stretch more. I don't know. But I do know this: IT WAS ONLY 48 BUCKS!!! Yeah it aint perfect but it did a very nice job on my carpet and I didn't have to take out a loan to buy it! (I hope it holds up well; that price kinda concerns me, but it Is a Hoover after all, replacing a Hoover, so I can only hope Hoover still makes quality)[bought my old Hoover upright at a garage sale for $25 in 1990]
