what ink cartridge does it use?

I use the genuine HP 564 Ink Cartridges and not an off brand.

How do you wake it up? Mine goes to sleep and I have to unplug it/plug it in to wake it up to print/copy/scan/etc.

I cannot print photos on my printer

I haven't tried to print photos. I have printed color copies. I dislike this printer so much that I don't use it often.

How does it work with a chromebook and alexa

The printer works by wireless if you network by selecting the wireless printer and installing. From there it works like selecting any printer when you print. I use a separate printing app on my phone too. Alexa would depend on how you are giving commands so once set would be like any other printer.
