The near focus is poor, the light gathering is only okay, and the exit pupil size is a bit small. All that said, I wanted something I could keep in my purse or glove compartment. I don't often have my larger binoculars with me. These are perfect! They are small enough to put in a vest or jacket pocket. The light gathering is very good for the size and price. They are easy to focus, even with thin gloves on.
