Is it normal for a constant humming noise to come out of the regulator? Had for 16 months and it's now making a concerning humming noise when in use.

No, it is not typically normal for the control valve/regulator to hum when in use but it has been known to happen from time to time. This hum does not affect the unit in any form or function and does not create any hazardous conditions. This humming can occur when; your grill is being used on the highest flame setting where the flow of gas through the valve’s orifice can create the noise, using a 1lb canister and the canister had frozen or frost built up on the canisters outside during use, or if the valve was stored outside in humid conditions causing minor condensation to accumulate inside of valve orifice. You can try turning the valve on high and depressing the knob several times simultaneously to see if that clears the orifice of any possible fluid build up.
