Review: Replace (About 90%) of your Elbow Grease with Steam! - Corny title aside, this has been a well-worth purchase. We recently moved into a house where the previous owners did not know how to clean properly. Whether they moved into the house with it like this or not, the grout on these kitchen tiles were so full of gunk and God knows what else that when we first moved in, I attempted to take a chopped down nylon bristle brush, a soapy water and bleach mixture, and go to town on these. My results were impressive, but it took hours, and hours, and hours of scrubbing just to finish the kitchen area, leaving the entire larger dining room portion as nasty as you can see in the image. I'm aware there's a few spots on the tiles themselves that don't look like the machine did a good enough job, that's not the case! I'm simply saving those spots to try out the steaming mop head part. Anyways, I knew if I wanted to get these clean, I was going to have to find another way. I've seen McCulloch steam machines recommended specifically for Auto Detailing, and based on the results I've personally seen, I imagine it'll do phenomenal there. But steam has its uses just about everywhere, and mine was in the kitchen. This was my first time using a steam machine quite like this, so I'm not sure if there's a better way or if I should be using more steam or not, but I set the dial back to use about as little steam as possible, and then bumped it up a tiny bit from there. I attached one of the wider Nylon bristle brush attachments onto the precision nozzle, and went at it. My process was to let the steam do as much of the work for me as possible. I've done more than enough scrubbing on this floor already, so I wasn't eager to do more. I pull the trigger, and move slowly over the grout line, letting the bristles drag on the tile. I do about 3 slow back and forth passes, and as I'm finishing up the 3rd pass, the gunk is already starting to wipe away with the very gentle bristle pressure. Once the 3rd pass is done, I start scrubbing my way back up and down the grout line, blasting the steam the entire time. At this point I'm using a little more pressure, but it's still hardly anything at all, just enough to make sure that the bristles are able to reach into the grout to take out all the nasties. At this point I'm just scrubbing anything I see, dark spots on the edges, dark spots in the grout, etc... just lightly scrubbing. I'm using so little pressure that I can apply the pressure I need with one hand, it's not difficult at all. It takes maybe a whole minute to do an edge of tile if I have to really scrub out a tougher spot. Once I'm done scrubbing, I take my trusty disposable automotive rag, wipe up the water, and I'm off to the next grout line. It's that easy. When the rag is soaked, I take it to the sink, wring it out under clean water, get is as dry as possible, go back and start again. As far as the machine itself is concerned, it can put out a lot of steam. While I don't see anyone needing to use it for a true 2 hours straight (I got the big one), I'm almost certain the machine can handle that. The quality of all the parts seem fine, they're all plastic, but given that they're supposed to withstand the high temperature steam that's coming from the machine, I'm sure they're a higher quality than your typical stuff. I've seen a lot of reviews about how their brushes and such aren't made to snuff with the machine, and I have to say that after having used the same single nylon bristle brush all day, these people have got to be scrubbing way too hard with their stuff. Steam is meant to do a lot of the heavy lifting for you, breaking down virtually anything with the moisture and extreme heat combo (not to mention it's naturally disinfecting as it does!). Once broken down, most of the stuff you'll be using this for should be able to be very gently scrubbed away with minimal effort. You don't have to use a lot of force to see results, the steam does the hard work for you. Granted, this isn't a miracle machine, you're still going to have to put in a very little amount of effort to get it to that 100% mark, but man if it doesn't make it so much easier. If you're on the fence but you have a project in mind you could use this for, I'm almost certain this will make that job easier.
Review: Hands down the BEST purchase I've made! - I do auto detailing on the side, and use the MC1385 regularly. What I love about this is that unlike the old "spray and wipe" methods of cleaning, you steam an area, and within seconds, the dirt and grime simply loosen up and is easily wiped with a microfiber towel. No making multiple passes, respraying, none of that. Using this, I'm able to clean dirty, oily door jams, door sills, door panels, fabric, dashboards, and consoles. It removes stubborn scuff marks from the dash and doors that would be impossible to scrub off. I recently cleaned the interior of a very dirty Ford Escape. Dirt, grime, dust... It was bad. The MC1385 tore thru it, sanitizing everything and getting rid of the awful odors. It left the interior clean and fresh smelling. Best of all, using steam verses chemicals won't leave you with that nasty odor that cleaners leave behind, which just mask the smells and don't really get rid of them. See pics below. If you're on the fence about the price, spend the money and get something that is well made and has attachments for just about anything you need to clean. It's a purchase you won't regret, making cleaning easier and even a bit fun, if there is such a thing. The dislikes: as much as I love this, there are a few things that bug me, but I've found a workaround: Attachments: a bag comes with its, and there are several small attachments that can easily get lost. Buy one of those clear plastic zip storage bags, and you will keep everything together. The standard bag is a reusable shopping style bag that does closes with a tiny piece of Velcro. Warm up: this takes about 15 minutes. Ive found to let the steam warm, squeeze the trigger a few time to get the water running thru the machine, and then let the steam build up for about five minute. Then, go at it. To make life easier, use a plastic funnel to fill the tank, it's almost impossible to fill using the little cup that comes with it. These are just little quirks of mine, certainty not reasons to avoid buying. More like suggestions for making this machine even better. Get over the price and buy something you will find a million uses for, and isn't some under powered "puff and clean" machine like some that you see listed. You won't regret the investment. I love this machine and I know it has saved me a ton of time, effort, and aggravation. I don't know how I went without it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will the McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner kill bed bugs**
A: Yes, it will kill them but please keep in mind you MUST leave the stream directly on the bug for at least 1 minute. I didn't do this at first and the stream would just stun the bed bugs and they would reanimate after a few minutes. Also with the spray nozzle, it can blow them away. I found the most effective attachment was the flat, floor attachment to keep the steam hitting the bug for the required length of time to kill them dead with out blowing them away. Good luck!

**Q: What is the difference between the 1375 and the 1275? Thanks.**
A: 1375 - 90 mins of steam and 20 accessories, 1275 - 45mins of steam and 18 accessories. Biggest difference is the 1275 has no variable control on the steam pressure output to the hand nozzle, where the 1375 has a variable control to adjust the steam pressure depending on cleaning job you are tackling.

**Q: I have tile floors with grout that has been repeatedly stained with dog urine. Would this steamer work for this or just make it smell worse?**
A: I think it would depend on your tiles and your own level of cleanliness and how much elbow grease and time you want to put in. I have flagstone with thick grout lines. I find the steamer helpful for quick jobs or jobs where I am not overly concerned about the finished look. I used the steamer to clean the house that we bought after all the contractors (including two dry walling companies) were finished. Based on the pads, I wasn't getting it as clean as I wanted it to be. I was aiming for a shoeless house so I wanted it clean enough that when you did a regular mopping the mop water would be a light gray. I finally got to that state using a soap and water solution buffing it in with a floor buffer (Oreck 550 MC bought on Amazon) then using a wetvac to suck it up. It was more efficient and my regular house cleaner and the contractors were all impressed. After that, I applied Stonetech sealer bulletproof (also bought on Amazon, but my tile guy was so impressed with my cleaning that he brought me a gallon sized one as a present--$100 value!). In my experience with many different kinds of floors remodeling houses for myself and other people, this has been the best method I have come up with so far. I have dogs and kids and this would be the method I would use. As for smell, I think it works best. I have used nature's cleaner, vinegar and baking soda to try to get rid of smells. The steam cleaner does work and I don't know if it was the combination of both processes but I got rid of the smell. There was leftover smell from the house not being occupied for three years. Some people commented that the house smelled different at the end and it wasn't the new house smell. I use Caldrea all purpose cleaner 1/4 cup mixed in a big yellow industrial bucket full of water for my wet mopping chores.

**Q: I have an acrylic shower. Has anyone used the steam cleaner on similar fixtures?**
A: I have used my McCulloch on almost everything. My husband kids me, if he stood still too long I would steam clean him. I have acrylic parts on my refrigerator, coffee pot , micro wave. I use it to dust off my artificial plants and trees. In other words I use it on almost everything. But never, never on electronic items or screens.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little steam cleaner with some room for improvement.
*by S***E on June 23, 2026*

I used the MC1385 to steam clean my entire Airbnb this weekend. Overall it does a great job but there are a few things that could use improvement. I steam cleaned the wood, vinyl, & ceramic floors, the shower tile, the sinks, and the 3 sets of double sliding glass doors. Here's what I found. Pros: - It's very light weight and the hose and power cord seem plenty long enough. - There is an attachment for just about anything you want to try to steam clean. - The dial on the handle to control the amount of steam is very handy when going back & forth from large attachments to small ones. - Cleaned the floors (wood, vinyl, ceramic tile & grout) like a champ. - It did an ok job on my own stainless steel sink but I figure out that it's better to let some CLR soak on there first, wipe & rinse, then use the steam; that works much better on hard water build up. - It cut my window cleaning time in half. - It has more tank capacity and included attachments than the 1375. Cons: - There's no way to know how much water is in the tank at any given time. I saw this in other reviews so I already knew this would be a challenge. It's not a big deal but when you run out of water, you have to wait for it to cool down (~5-6 min) before you can refill it, then it has to warm back up again (~6-7 min) so it's kind of disruptive if it happens right in the middle of something. - When you're doing the floors the canister doesn't just roll around and follow you like it does with the MC1375. In fact, not only does it fall over the moment you tug on the hose, it's down right comical trying to move the canister while holding the mop AND kicking the power cord out of the way. It's awkward to say the least, but I'll figure it out. Knowing I would use this on floors quite bit, I almost opted for the 1375 for this reason, but I will also use it for windows, sinks, and baths just as much & the 1375 doesn't come with the widow squeegie/scrubber attachment. - When you use the attachments with short bristles like the floor scrubber, triangle scrubber, window scrubber/squeegie, the bristles bend with the heat of the steam and the pressure of using it. Once they bend, they're not as effective at scrubbing. I might try to use the steam and push them in the other direction to see if it straightens them out. Overall it's very handy for cleaning a 768 sq ft cottage on all the surfaces I mentioned, and only refilled twice, but there are a few things that keep it from being a 5-star product.
