handy obsorbent silica gel stuff
WHAT! No cobalt chloride?! That just chaps my hide! I occasionally put cobalt sprinkles on my ice cream. What will I do now? Anyhow, this is a good product, these things do what they are supposed to, absorb moisture and it does it rather well. Fit anywhere including your pockets. Wonder if it would work as underarm deodorant? Anyhow, need something that keeps your sensitive items dry and can be reused by heating in the oven, then this is for you! Its reasonably priced and its fun to shake. Please don't overthink these things, its a simple device that does one thing, absorb moisture and help protect you electronics or other items. Ok, it does 2 things, but you know what I mean. :) Feed it!

Use a rubber band!
I've been using this for years. If you received a damage one, request a replacement for it or return it. With that said, these work great. I would "activate" them before using the first time and to keep them from opening (I dropped one before and the beads went EVERYWHERE), user a rubber band. Just remember to remove the rubber band before you put it in the oven to "activate." Also set a 4-6 month reminder (or whenever depending on how fast they absorb moisture for you in your situation), otherwise they will be less effective over time.

Great for firearm storage.
Great for firearm storage. I've been using them for years. Just refresh them in the oven and they're good for another year.

Looks to be well made
I ordered eight of these for ammo cans. When I received these they had small dents in the metal, which I noted. I then reordered five more and they were packaged better and came in perfect condition. The orange light was not as noticeable as in the photograph. Everyone said you did not have to put these in the oven upon receipt. Just to be sure I put them in the oven for the required three hours. They are expensive, but if they last a life time and work well then I am willing to play the extra amount. By putting them in a small air tight ammo can, I would think that they would last a long time without having to reheat them in an oven. I have not had them long enough to be able to judge this.

Dry capsules = Easier capping
Background/Use: I like to cap my own supplements using empty gelcaps and bulk powders. To accomplish this, I use a capping machine and buy gelatin capsules 1,000 at a time. I had trouble getting the previous caps to fit into the machine so I figured they must be absorbing moisture. So when I bought my present package of empty capsules, I also purchased this dessicant box to keep them dry. The relative humidity in my house stays between 40-50% (40-pint dehumidifier in the summer and many humidifiers in the winter) so I'm not fighting some crazy conditions to begin with. When I got the gelcaps in, I tried them in the capping machine and though some of them were a tight fit, they worked as received. After that, I transferred them to a gallon ZipLoc bag and put this dessicant box in. 5 days later, I tried them again and to my surprise, the capsules had actually LOST MOISTURE. I was just hoping to prevent them gaining any additional moisture but to lose moisture was astounding. They all fit right into the capping machine with no resistance and in fact the top half fit so loosely that a couple of them wouldn't stay in when I flipped it upside down to press onto the filled bottom half. I did not have high hopes for this so I was looking for a solution involving calcium sulphate (the ultimate dessicant) but now I doubt I will need anything stronger than this. Bottom line: For keeping capsules dry, this works splendidly well.

Effective and Economical Solution
I ordered 2 of these for use in a 40" gun safe. They have done a great job in eliminating any moisture and the fact that they can be "recharged" by heating them in the oven for 3 hours at 300*F makes them a great value. These dessicants let you know when they need to be "recharged" by showing a clear color through the small window on them. I purchased these in October 2016 and am writing this review August 2018 and these are still going strong. Some other reviews have noted that the window is hard to see through after heating them in the oven one time, but I haven't experienced that with the ones that I have FWIW.

Eliminates nasty odors in my safe.
Bought this to place in my safe to eliminate the odors that build up inside. Going on eight months and it works great and have re-charged it twice now in a 300 degree oven for three hours for each re-charge. How long will it last? Who knows but for the price it has been worth it.
