Good album
Enjoyable, well-produced country music. McAnally has a pleasant voice and vocal delivery, and he's an excellent songwriter. Not to mention that he plays multiple instruments, specializing in guitar. My reason for purchasing this disc is the fact that Andrew Gold contributed harmony vocals on the track "Wide Open Spaces." Not only Gold, however, but all of the members of Bryndle (Gold, Kenny Edwards, Wendy Waldman, and Karla Bonoff) contribute vocals on that track, and Edwards also plays acoustic guitar.I liked this disc so much that I'm going to search out more of his recordings. My previous knowledge of Mac McAnally was that he was a featured background vocalist on Joan Baez's album "Honest Lullaby" from 1979. He is an accomplished musician and singer and writer and "Knots" is an excellent introduction to his work.

King of Catch
Mac McAnally's "Knots" is a CD I continually pull off the shelf. No matter how hard the day, it sets your toe to tapping, puts a smile on your face & some cheer in your heart and gets you singing along. My favorite track is the hook-laden "Take It Easy (All I Know I About Love)," which has to be one of the catchiest tunes of all time. The story of the cleaning lady whose homegrown wisdom is overheard by a psychologist and turned into a blockbuster self-help enterprise always puts a smile on my face. McAnally must be cousin to Canada's Colin Linden or Texas' "Randy Weeks" with his sense of rock & bounce. "Good For Nothin'" is another tune whose driving guitar rocks you off the chart while Mac celebrates the attractions of lethargy. "The Knot" is a great midtempo country track about those who've experienced love lost, "And friends if you never knew love...turn off this song, but if you've had true love & it's come & gone, I'd have to say there's a good chance that you have a knot in your stomach to look forward to." "There I'll Be" is another catchy midtempo romantic track, "Whatever the future holds, God only knows; but one thing I can see, wherever you are, there I'll be." "Down the Road" is another midtempo country track with Paul Franklin's steel guitar adding country spice, "Her mama wants to know am I washed in the blood or just in the water; Her daddy wants to know if I make enough to take his daughter." McAnally's "Knots" shows him at the top of his game in a consistently strong body of work for numerous labels since the 70s. For as wonderful as he is, he's marvelously unknown. Don't let this gem pass by! Bravo!

Mac at his Blues-y best!
Most of the tracks are up-tempo country blues, and all feature a craftsman's hand with the tunes and lyrics that we have come to expect from this master.Mac's insightful and heart-felt lyrics ae as incisive as any of his other CDs, but many of the cuts take a coutry blues flavor. The cover art is a Mac trademark, it is a pun on knots in your stomach from being nervous. Again, Mac's subtle sense of humor at play.McAnally again leaves little doubt that he can play guitar and sing with anyone, and bring a smile to the listener's face.In my opinion, it is one of his best.

o.k.
The first cd I ever bought by Mac McAnally was Simple Life which I love. I keep waiting for his other cds to be as good and I haven't heard another one yet. This cd has a couple good songs. Down The Road which is one of those songs that have been recorded by a few artist but has never been a hit. And Take It Easy. The rest of the songs are o.k. with nothing else really standing out.
